I suddenly start to see her as a three-dimensional person rather than the sum of the ubiquitous images that the media generate, and I found myself moved by some of the things she said and the way she said them.
If I was around her much I'm sure I'd fall in love with her - yes she has some affectations, but who doesn't, especially in her world - and I can see real depth in her too.
She's lovely, and she made me feel good simply watching that interview.

    Posted at my work.

I had ancestors who served in WWI and suffered tremendously in the trenches. Had a ton of family in WWII (all in the Pacific though), a distant relative went down with one of the ships in Pearl Harbor. And my mom knew so many who served in Vietnam(including my uncle). All that suffering and pain they endured and witnessed.

I salute your family and your country. Because of their sacrifices my family, my wife and children live in a free country. I don’t take that for granted. I teach my children that a lot of brave people sacrificed their life for us. I let them visit the graves of the fallen ones and I volunteer maintaining those graves. There is no way I can thank the people of all the countries that helped us. The only thing I can do is help to remember the brave soldiers who came to foreign unknown countries and died on soil that was not their home. To everyone involved: Thank you.

I'm sure they would welcome those thanks but probably also say they were just doing what had to be done. I always have had pride in those said relatives, even though I never got the chance to ever meet the vast majority of them I got to hear about who they were as people and generally they were great people. And they were proud of their service(though one of them who met one of the Generals openly thought he was a jackass lol), but they suffered tremendously afterwards, with the night terrors and various addictions. I loved hearing the stories of who they were, they were so much more than just soldiers(literally, as some had fairly high ranks during the course of the Wars). I am proud of my connection to them, and regardless of my pacifist anti-war nature and various issues I have with government, military, etc., I have always been proud of them and what they did and always will.

Wish i could write the same about my countrymen at the time, but truth be told we let the germans use our tracks and trains to ship troops and weapons to norway. We can hide behind neutrality all we want but the truth is there. Not all of us were cowards some helped refugees mostly from finland and norway but from other parts of europe aswell. But i feel that the history books have been to kind on us. And that sickens me. Stand up and take responsibilty for your actions. From such a standpoint one can move forward.

Don't beat yourself up or feel ashamed for things you had no hand in, Flippy. I'm horrified by the atrocities perpetrated by the Brits during our colonial days, and the fortunes made from the slave trade, none of which were of my doing!
And don't forget that as unpalatable as you may now find it, just think of how many of your countrymen owed their lives at the time, and families today owe their very existence now, to your Government's decision back then?

Not meant as offence but if im being entirely honest i find tall women to be a bit intimidating. I dont know what causes it.

Don't resist, Flippy, just enjoy! There's an elegance that tallness brings that's a pleasure to behold! I suspect that the intimidation you refer to is a throw-back to childhood when adults usually appear taller?

PS But you might have noticed that billionaires' trophy wives are frequently a foot taller than them!

Boys were, guys are, you haven't lived until you're sitting down in a club (not the ones were you can't hear yourself speak and your eardrums bleed)
and a gorgeous guy comes over to you and asks you to dance.

You say yes and stand up and the top of his head is on nipple level.

    Meanwhile

Thank you for all your memories over Remembrance Sunday/Armistice.

My family served in the Second World War, First World War, the Spanish Civil War and the Boer War.

We had who would have been my Great Aunt had she not be killed in the Blitz.

It's not remembering the Wars, but those affected by it.

The Sale of poppies in the UK, Ireland and the Commonwealth,
goes to help Veterans via the British Legion who served in the
Second World War right up to Soldiers serving in Afghanistan today,
those wounded, who live with PTSD, it also helps the Families left
behind who have lost who could be the main breadwinner.

I think many think its all past tense, but its ongoing its helping people today.

    Finally

That was the first time I've been there in Whitehall for the 2 minutes silence in their memory.
This was the 100th anniversary of the first silent, the security getting into Whitehall was tight
    but friendly.
We had to be there early, we were allowed in 2 hours before, we had to go through metal detectors
(like in airports) and yes I got the "You're tall".
But being tall came in useful in seeing everything and the parade of veterans afterwards.

This parade wasn't about "Military Might" and fly pass's, tanks etc, this was a parade of Veterans, or
their families and civilians services, it was an amazing day.

Talked to a few of the Old Soldiers in their late 80's and 90's and they were so full of life
and yes I did get asked for a kiss several time, and I was delighted to oblige.

Its just very difficult for me to look someone in the eyes on the account if my disability. I tend too look away slightly. Therefore its easier if the woman is either taller than me or shorter. Im almost 6 1 (183).
