Some years ago I was watching an International football match between England and Sweden (Flippy's homeland), when the commentator happened to mention that none of the Swedish international players that day actually played in Sweden on a regular basis! But several of them apparently played regularly in the English leagues!
Maybe Flippy's apparent attitude to "outdoor training" is common there, and has a bearing on the standing of the Swedish Football Leagues? (I know I'm inviting trouble here!)

    England’s Professional teams, both Women’s & Men’s do both.

I remember not the last but the World Cup before, England’s Men’s team we’re defeated by Iceland? Who were made up by a very professional (and effective) part time team.

As my favorite American football team has as a motto(had anyway), "Just win baby". If you're not looking to be a champion in pro sports, you're in the wrong profession.

    Page 200 of the Blog!

I spend a few days thinking about this and whether I would post it on here.

Right my reactions to the interview, first of all, I want to say I like Emma Watson, I lust after Emma Watson
and you might say after reading this, I wouldn’t like to see if she didn’t like her, but my reaction is this.

First of all, I’d of far preferred it if Emma Watson interviewed Paris Lees (trans-sexual woman who has campaigned for Trans rights. She's been high profile and very visible and been on the receiving end of some terrible abuse, she’s the one that’s had an “extraordinary life”).
    Paris Lees
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_Lees

Paris really comes across in the interview as a fangirl, in fact in places she’s so gushing it would be a publicists dream.

Vogue has in the past been more cutting edge and challenging in their interviews, this reminded me of something out of the 1950s.

Emma Watson talks of the challenges she faces, on approaching 30, she said “I feel so stressed and anxious”.

I would suggest you’d feel slightly more stressed not knowing how you going to feed your children or pay the rent or not feeding yourself in favour of your children.
Watson is stressed, but i think having £62m in the bank can cushion that feeling or to be able to go-between your London and New York homes.

That position of privilege can help in a lot of ways.

Yes, she’s an inspiration to a generation of young women, yes, she’s a feminist, yes she is the figurehead for important causes and lending her name to those causes,.

Speaking at G7, HeForShe, fighting harassment at work is important!

In the article, she speaks of championing ethical dressing and how she was pictured in the B&W outfits in the shoot from these.
That's wearing a wool jacket priced at £1,750 and denim jeans at £665.

I volunteer at a homeless shelter for Young People in the London area (and across the UK),
we ask the public to donate £12 a month to help save lives and change lives.

That £1,750 would really help out.

I’m (i hope) a feminist without a label, in the interview Emma gushes when she speaks about meeting the Gloria Steinman (the Feminist Icon)
it's great meeting people that inspire you, but I’ve always believed its in your ongoing actions, not just the books you read or icons you meet or
books you give out in a photo ops.

I went through a very hard time a few years ago and was in a downward spiral, to cut a long story short.

Someone told me a way to break that spiral... help others.

I ended up in Africa helping to build a school, I fundraised for my fare out there and accommodation while I was there.

I’m not famous, nobody recognises my face, but if Emma Watson was to be proactive to get out there.
What she could do for some many different causes and I'm not talking about just go somewhere hold the baby for a photo op and leave.

It could be "Emma did it for them, I can do it as well", that would inspire young girls, that could inspire young people in general.

Being pictured going to exclusive resorts inspires the Love Island/Instagram generation to want to be able to go to those exclusive resorts.

Good for Emma enjoying a very comfortable lifestyle, she can do what she likes when she likes.
If I could do it, I would but to me, it's more than speeches or being a face.

Emma said in the interview, she drew a comparison between being a Celebrity and being Trans,
“In that, they can both leave you afraid to go out the front door”.

Yes being a Celebrity can be scary, its stalkers, it's being harassed by the paps.

But Trans people don’t have £62m in the bank to afford security
or to when you “Feel down”, to travel to exclusive resorts.

Emma has helped to front different causes, but I know of a lot of Celebrities that do a lot more, are more hands-on,
and don’t appear in upmarket magazines being interviewed on their life of privilege.

Perhaps Emma’s hands-on experience of a world away from Potter and Celebrity isn’t her fault.
Cast at 9, knew nothing else until she was 18, tried University life and made some films.

But she seems aware of what she wants to do and yes all the money and privilege in the world can’t help you when the problems run deeply.

The Actor Helen McClory (Bellatrix's sister Narcissa Malfoy in Harry Potter) called Child actors “Weird”.

Maybe aside from soucing boyfriends via her University days, perhaps she finds out what’s happening out there,
like friends of mine who are working, but still can’t afford to pay rent, electricity and paying to get to work and have to
go to food banks to eat, that’s the daily reality of being anxious.

Vogue is Vogue, it's a high-end fashion magazine, but when you feature someone who is a spokesperson
for human rights and then look at the price of the outfits featured, to me it's not so much “He for She”, it's them and us.

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Maybe Emma donated her Vogue fee to some of her causes, I couldn't find it in the scans, I’ll check out the magazine itself.

    Helen McClory.

What I wrote brought to mind what Ricky Gervais said on Jennifer Lawrence’s equal pay protest.

“Jennifer Lawrence made the news when she demanded equal pay for women in Hollywood.
She received overwhelming support from people everywhere.

There were marches on the street with nurses and factory workers saying,

How the hell can a 25-year-old live on $52 million?!"

Talking of activists, everyone is different, some are more vocal than others, Jane Fonda for example (whether or not you are with her)
has been protesting against Climate change every day outside the Capitol building in DC for the last five weeks.

She's been arrested several times and has returned the next day.

That is to is being an activist.

I think you're being unreasonably hard on Emma.

You seem to base your criticism of her mainly because of her privileged status.

The same sort of argument is used just as unreasonably at the other end of the scale when a young person commits countless atrocities and the "compassionate squad" step in and plead in mitigation that they're the product of a deprived childhood, a dysfunctional family unit, physical and/or sexual abuse associated with drug and alcohol dependency, and a totally inadequate response from Social Services to the amply demonstrated need!

This often-used approach conveniently avoids mentioning that thousands of youngsters from similarly "deprived" backgrounds grow up to be respected, law-abiding and productive citizens - Mr & Mrs average? Well, maybe not quite average, but who knows?

The point I'm trying to make is that people are people, and where they start from or end up doesn't materially change their essential nature. So in the same way that I'd argue that deprivation doesn't necessarily produce anti-social monsters, I'm suggesting that good fortune, privilege, money, prestige, etc. don't necessarily produce "saints" or pillars of the community!

Emma is basically that 9-year-old girl that got lucky and made good, and has now grown up and is groping around, apparently feeling that there should be more to her life than fame and fortune - which is encouraging. However, getting lucky and being famous doesn't increase one's IQ or moral compass, so don't ridicule her attempts to do something meaningful and worthwhile! Perhaps also the guidance and advice that she receives might not always be the best? Just as importantly, is there a debt she has to pay?

She may not be ticking all your boxes, but she still has such a long way to go!

    I don't.

I didn't get that at all, read what she said again. I think it was more along the lines of, don't compare oranges to apples. Emma does herself no favors by inviting comparisons that have no basis in reality.
Some people may call that "tone deaf". What I thought I read was that Emma should acknowledge that she has privilege.

I suppose I may be wrong, I often am. Just my opinion. :2cents:

    :)
