because of tv shows on the internet

"The strike began Monday after last-minute negotiations failed to produce a deal on how much writers are paid when shows are offered on the Internet."

The Writers' Guild are asking for a bigger share in the income derived from the distribution of their work to the new media (internet, cellphones, etc). It appears that they only get paid in full by the studios when their work are shown on mainstream media (TV, movie, etc).

it doesn't matter how rich or poor you are.
You must get paid according to your work, and according to the profits that this work brings to the studios.
Why would the studios profit from legal internet downloads and not pay the creators?

aw fuck off, everyone would like more cash for their work but when your work pays you in hundreds of thousands and even millions of dollars then sit the fuck down, shut the fuck up and be happy that you dont eat shit every day.

if they really want to do something decent they should lower cinema ticket prices so people actually want to go to the ciname, cap actors wages so that fucking john travolta and the like dont get 235 million for 8 weeks acting work.

    fucking rich people.

They really are getting ripped off though. they only get like 4 cents for every DVD sold. And they get zero for online stuff. As shows become distributed more online they will eventually not get shit.

Although I'm disappointed, I thought writers would have more creative things written on their picket signs.

The writers actually CREATE the material. The actors just read lines with their pretty faces. Seeing as both sides are so necessary to crate media, you'd think the pay would be close to 50/50, but it's so incredibly NOT 50/50 :p
