POLL Who is modern day sex symbol?

After thinking about it, I would say currently it's:

1) Emily Ratajkowski
2) No one else is even close.

 

Marilyn Monroe is, pretty inarguably, the most iconic sex symbol Hollywood has ever produced. When I look at that list, none of their fame comes even close to hers did based primarily on their looks. Rihanna, Beyonce & Perry are definitely icons, but they became famous due their singing carriers. Monroe became famous because she was a sex symbol. Think...Pamela Anderson. She's another great example of a sex symbol from the past.

In terms of the rest of that list, specifically, Daddario & Sweeney are both damn sexy but they just don't have the clout. They aren't A-list enough. Same goes for Hewitt as well, though a stronger argument may have been made in her favor a decade or two ago. Eilish is barely an "adult", and basically goes out of her way to dress as least sexy as possible. Not even sure why she's on this list, by her own choice she's basically an anti-sex symbol.

By process of elimination, in terms of this specific list, that leaves Johansson. She's definitely A-list, and extremely prominent due to the exposure she's gotten being in the MCU, aka the biggest movie franchise ever, and she's an absolute bombshell.

Off list? Margot Robbie was the first name to come to mind who might fit as a current day sex symbol.

 

Monroe's status benefited greatly from dying young. ScarJo is already older than Monroe was when she died. If Monroe had lived to see her looks fade or been around to control how her image was used in the following decades it's very unlikely she would be as highly regarded.

Monroe also got a boost from boomer nostalgia. For many of them she was one of the first women they fapped to and since she never grew old and fat like Elizabeth Taylor or the other hot women of her era she could continually be held up as the pinnacle of sexiness.

 

How has no one said the actual three names that have been sex symbols recently. Megan Fox, Miley, and Dakota Johnson. Now, these aren’t the traditional sense of the word “sex symbol” like a Pam Anderson or Marylin Monroe but each brings their own flair to it. Back in Transformers times there was a guy out there who didn’t want to see her tits. This stems from her being the ultimate cock tease in the early 2000’s while still oozing sex appeal i.e. her Carls Jr commercial and Jennifer’s Body. Miley shouldn’t have to be explained. Everything she does now is about sex. Wether it be her multitudes of publicly realized nude photos, to her vma performance with Robin Thicke, she is sex in 2022. You also have to include Dakota Johnson on 50 shades alone. Hard not to be seen as a sex symbol when everyone can see you getting flogged and tied up in the theater.

Ana de Armas seems to me to be the big sex symbol of the moment. As others have pointed out, though, it really depends on your definition of "sex symbol." My favorite is Emma Watson, but I don't think she fits most people's definition.

If you are talking about a celebrity who is thought of as extremely sexy, then someone like Scarlett Johansson fits the bill - she's certainly one of the closest echoes of the classic femme fatale type (blonde, curvy figure, husky voice, etc.). Some well-regarded actresses like Anne Hathaway or Eva Green would also seem like good choices. A few years ago, I might have said Heather Graham, Elizabeth Hurley, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Halle Berry, Lucy Liu, etc., but they are all getting up in years (though goodness knows they still look amazing). However, more modern tastes might suggest someone like Lizzy Caplan, Alison Brie, Rosario Dawson, Aubrey Plaza, or Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who are all phenomenally sexy but appeal more to the nerdy internet types.

That said, it also depends on what body type you're looking for. I've noticed that some of the bigger starlets right now seem to be more full-figured than the near-twigs I grew up with - people like Florence Pugh or Addison Rae (or even Hailee Steinfeld, who is somewhere in between), though of course people like Zendaya or Margaret Qualley are also popular and extremely sexy. (Rihanna and Beyonce are also definitely sex symbols, though I'd say perhaps a little less so now than 5-10 years ago.)

And then, of course, there are the people who are famous primarily for being sexy - Victoria Justice, for instance (yes, I know she was an actress and singer, but at this point she's mostly just famous for being hot), Diora Baird, or Emily Ratajkowski. The ultimate example of this is, of course, Kim Kardashian (or the rest of her clan), though personally I can't stand them.

So, in short, I don't think there's one particular answer. If you ask who from this era will be remembered as a sex symbol, maybe Scarlett or Beyonce would win, since I think people will remember their movies and/or songs. Today in isolation, maybe Ana de Armas. But I don't think it's a simple question with a simple answer.

 

Unconditional at the moment Sydney Sweeney, but a very unfair poll, given the age, each had its own peak of popularity.

 

Can't think anything better than Sydney Sweeney... maybe only Katy Perry could compete.

 

Not sure why a few of those names are even on the list. I'm goin' with Billie Eilish. Alexandra Daddario is #2. Sydney Sweeney is the third. They are all unbelievably beautiful women and I know others who consider them sex symbols too.

Back in the day sex symbol meant Bright lights Hollywood Films later on The fashion runways and billboards became the standard of the sex symbol.
Women like Jane Mansfield Marilyn Monroe Audrey Hepburn Raquel Welch and later Cindy Crawford Linda Evangalista Christie Brinkley Niomie Campbell and the like were the flag bearers ... Now, Meh! Instagram Tiktok Onlyfans gives us all our daily dose of our "favourite" celebs.. So many "hot" women to get your gratification from at the touch of a screen. Pamela Anderson Kate Upton and more recently Rita Ora are the last of the women that can truly be described as a old school "Sex symbol" All in my opinion of course..

my vote goes for...... drum roll...... none of those on the list!! poorly thought out list imho. so many others who might just qualify for a modern day sex symbol, but none of those for me.
