Emma can come lean on the hood of my Porsche any time she wants. (Although it's pretty dusty right now.)

She's actually made more money off these endorsements than tennis since she got rid of her coach after the Grand Slam. Since then it's been loss after loss at the round of 64 or 32 to players ranked four or five times higher than her. Feel really bad for her, she's getting a lot of hate on social media for not going out and winning everything every time she plays so it's "She's a one-hit-wonder". The poor girl won a grand slam ahead of schedule down to a series of fluke draws against "lesser" opponents when all the big guns were missing and now when she is still progressing everyone thinks she should be smashing opposition!

 

Yes, some of the criticism is very harsh, she's still new to touring the tennis circuits. I suspect even if she were winning Grand Slams, her endorsements would still outweigh her prize winnings, a pretty face + appealing to the English & Chinese markets.

 

The women's tennis is a real conundrum though. For some reason, there's too much inconsistency. And unlike men's tennis (granted we live in a special era of the 3 greatest players ever), you have these teenagers and up-and-coming players winning tournaments and grand slams. I'm worried about Emma that it might be all downhill from here, like we've seen time and again. I wonder if it's societal factors or biological or something else. Maybe someone with a better insight than a casual tennis fan like me can shed more light on the subject.

 

Ash Barty seems to have the right idea.
