    Of course. I'll explain the reasons:

    1. Reducing file size, of course. Usually skimming 1-2 MB to tens of MB off the file size is still possible. How much you can compress a file will depend a lot on how the video was originally encoded. Compressing MPEGs and AVIs is usually worthwhile but even with some badly encoded WMVs it's possible to save quite a few MB. When you upload (or download) a lot of files on rapidshare it adds up.

    2. Most importantly, compressing generates a file with a unique hash value. That way files can last longer on rapidshare. Suppose someone else uploads the original, uncompressed file elsewhere and that file is reported on. If I had uploaded the original file, that file would be deleted from my account and banned on rapidshare.
