Was she ever? Not that I'm surprised, they seem very much each other's type

She's suing/being sued by a movie production for something. Something to do with the contract, I'm not actually sure of the specifics

 

Eva is "taking legal action over the collapse of a dystopian thriller in which she was to star... suing White Lantern Films and SMC Speciality finance for her $1m (£807,000) fee she says is owed, but faces a counterclaim alleging she pulled out and breached her contract."

So, by the sounds of it, she signed on for the film, didn't like the way it was going and made it harder to move forward. Then when it collapsed she invoked pay or play to get paid anyway?

Sounds like she signed a contract, wanted out of it and then wanted the contract honoured so she could get paid.

Sounds like that at least.

If you sign on to do something, you do it. Don't sign on if you aren't going to do the work.

 

Uh, no.

"Play or Pay" is a standard boilerplate movie star contract. When you have a big name like hers attached, it aids in further financing/developing of the project, as was the case here.

Ain't the same as working the morning shift at Burger King.

Eva has a case because it appears that the producers shortchanged a lot of the specifics previously agreed to.

That said, her case looks fucked right now because of the WhatsApp messages revealed during the discovery phase.

And I suspect she hired some shitty lawyers.

 

I read up on what is going on and it seems that she was not interested in doing it due to her perceived value dropping. Which has nothing to do with anything as long as she signed the contract to do the work. Unless she had a specific clause that states she was able to walk if the budget dropped below a certain level then she is contracted to do the work. Doesn't matter how she feels afterwards.
As far as I can see she had no such clause in place. But what I do see is that she was trying her best to get out of it and was being a bit of a diva behind the scenes about it.
She isn't a big star and gets moderate level work so this would most likely not have affected her chances of work in any case.
She's pretty much going to be losing this one. But either way, who really cares.
