Explain? Our ancestors have been drinking farm fresh unpasteurised milk for centuries

Breast milk is unpasteurised, for example. Most people have drank that.

 

Even a brief google search could answer this question for you. I will never understand why people just assume something is true when they have basically all the world’s accumulated knowledge at their fingertips.

The fact that people used to drink raw milk doesn’t mean it was safe. There was still about a 1% mortality rate from zoonoses back then if you drank raw milk, which wasn’t that bad considering all the other pre-vaccination diseases killing people at higher rates. It also wasn’t easy to determine why you got sick when the dormancy time on some of the nastier bugs was weeks or months. Milk you got back then usually came from your own cow, and was drank within hours of being collected, and had none of the exposure risks to things like e.coli and salmonella that modern raw milk collecting would include. Today raw milk comes with a much higher risk of zoonoses and contamination due to collection, transport time, and the larger pool of cows sourced from.

More importantly, the raw milk bullshit is unscientific. It isn’t “easier to digest” nor does it magically bypass lactose intolerance. This is the same brainrotted bullshit as antivaxx.

 

My family moved to France in early 1964. My mother discovered she couldn't get pasteurized milk in any of the shops. Nobody in our city drank milk unless it had been heated almost to boiling. Trust me, hot milk is revolting. Kids at my elementary school brought wine to drink at lunch. Why? Because unpasteurized (raw) milk is dangerous, and everyone damned well knew it. No Tik-tok influencer can change that fact. I did miss the wine when we moved back home a couple of years later.

I'd ask about the idea of trademark problems with using that Got Milk design for this ad. But I'd think that the California Milk Processor Board's attorneys keep themselves busy with this sort of stuff. They're aware of where the line is between "stuff that's allowed" and "stuff that will inspire us to send a cease and desist letter".
