Singer Dua Lipa has officially become a citizen of Kosovo, the country where she lived between the ages of 11 and 15.
Dua Lipa, born in London to Kosovar Albanian parents, was granted citizenship in a ceremony led by the country's President Vjosa Osmani.
In a statement, Dua Lipa said that the citizenship "unifies my two sides" and "means a lot to me and my family." President Osmani praised her as one of Kosovo's great entertainment figures.
The family left Kosovo during the war in the 1990s, but have maintained close contact with their homeland.
Together with her father Dukagjin Lipa, she founded the Sunny Hill festival, which is now Kosovo's largest music festival. This year, she is one of the headliners, along with Shawn Mendes and Peggy Gou.
Dukagjin Lipa played in the band Oda in the 1980s and is now Dua Lipa's manager.
Dua Lipa is now a citizen of the United Kingdom, Albania and Kosovo. She has previously been an honorary ambassador for Kosovo and received the keys to the city of Pristina.
