Alien: Romulus was the year before. I was thinking The Last of Us.

 

The term is typically used for movies or TV shows that are part of a series ("The Fast & the Furious" or "Alien"), often based on existing intellectual properties from another medium (DC Universe, Marvel Cinematic Universe, and things going back to the Tarzan movies). These are usually blockbuster movies.

I'm not sure I've ever heard the term IP used to describe, say, the Netflix or HBO adaptations of what at least used to be called "chick lit," such as "The Summer I Turned Pretty" or "To All the Boys I've Loved Before." But I guess it could be.
