For the past few weeks, Insta photos posted as videos have no longer been published at the higher resolution of 1920 pixels, but only at 1280 pixels.

It wasn't until now that I remembered a trick for getting access to those higher-quality 2140 pixel preview images that Insta generates somewhere. (I couldn't find these .jpg images in the source code after a quick search.)

To do this, open the Story videos in a web-based Insta download service that displays all Story videos embedded in a webpage. Depending on the service, you can right-click to save the preview images of the videos directly, or with others you’ll need to view the link to the image in the browser developer tools. Also the resolution depends on the website, some offer 2140 pixels and some only 1920.

But this trick doesn't always work, in about 10–20% of cases the preview images only had the standard 1136 pixels.
