Not certain this thread is the right place for this post -- but it's celebrity-related and hopefully will inspire some conversation.

In December, Deadline published a story about the "comeback" of the "erotic thriller genre," and highlighted a handful of upcoming projects. Since that time I've been keeping a rough list of those projects, and adding to it as more are announced. Figured I'd share the list since some of these may be news to people.

It's important to note that not all of these projects will actually get filmed... and if they do there's no guarantee they'll be released... and if they are then they may or may not include anything worthwhile. As anyone who watched "The Threesome" last year can attest, even a movie that sounds really appealing can be a complete waste of time.

Projects with celebs attached are listed at the top, approximately organized by my level of interest/anticipation. I welcome any additions or updates, and if people find this useful then I'll try to keep updating as we go!

Teach Me (Peacock)
· Starring: Mandy Moore
· Summary: A teacher wields power over an impressionable but unreliable student, chronicling what happens when that student becomes the teacher as an exploration of the blurred lines between sex, power and addiction.

Night Float (streaming)
· Starring: Nina Dobrev
· Summary: An alluring young woman moves into hospital housing to live with her resident boyfriend. She becomes entangled with an older doctor who entices her to act as a runner in an illicit insider-trading ring.

Non Compos Mentis
· Starring: Sarah Pidgeon (maybe – rumored she may have dropped out)
· Summary: Two silver-spoon brothers deal with their mother’s slow descent into dementia. Their brittle relationship fractures further when one begins an affair with a much younger woman, setting off a triangle that spirals into obsession, betrayal, and a vicious fight over the family fortune.

Bulls
· Starring: Kaia Gerber
· Summary: A man books a last-ditch trip to a hedonistic island resort, hoping to come back as someone his girlfriend can finally believe in. But his lonely escape detonates when a hookup with a married woman puts him on a collision course with her alpha male husband.

Scorn
· Starring: Adria Arjona, Meredith Hagner, Millie Brady, Freya Mavor
· Summary: A woman begins a passionate affair with a married man. When he then tries to re-cast their love as just a fling, she refuses to go away quietly.

Asphyxia
· Starring: Genevieve Chenneour, Kathryn Lincoln, Anna Wilson-Jones
· Summary: Set at an isolated writers’ retreat at a remote Georgian estate, a troubled novelist battling trauma and hallucinations is drawn into an unsettling orbit as buried truths and dark desires surface.

Mother’s Helper
· Starring: Shailene Woodley
· Summary: A woman struggling to balance her household and marriage hires a handsome young man to help out at home.

Ruins
· Starring: Vanessa Kirby
· Summary: A couple has an affair with a young Greek woman over the course of a summer in Athens. It threatens to crack their relationship open in a story about privilege and power, desire and intimacy.

Hollow
· Starring: Sydney Sweeney
· Summary: A reimagining of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, told through the perspective of Katrina Van Tassel as the central figure in a dangerous mystery and seductive supernatural love triangle. The story blends gothic atmosphere, psychological intrigue, and erotic thriller elements.

Fleur
· Starring: Halle Berry, Liza Colón-Zayas
· Summary: A New York housewife flees America and her husband of 30 years to reinvent herself in Paris as Fleur, an upscale escort and dominatrix carving out her own power and identity.

Palm Grove
· Starring: Kate Hudson, Ana de Armas
· Summary: Set in Miami, giving the film a glossy, sun-drenched backdrop for what sounds like a more adult-skewing thriller.

Act One (premiered at Tribeca)
· Starring: Ella Beatty, Ari Graynor
· Summary: A young aspiring actress, desperate for guidance and belonging, falls under the spell of a manipulative acting coach who draws her into a web of control and obsession.

Discretion (title to change)
· Starring: Nicole Kidman (rumored)
· Summary: A struggling actor takes a nannying job with a high-flying producer and her movie-star husband, plotting to seduce his employers and exploit their industry connections only to find himself ensnared in a far more dangerous game.

Hancock Park (Netflix)
· Starring: Regé-Jean Page, no one else announced yet
· Summary: A dangerously charismatic outsider invades the lives of a seemingly picture-perfect Los Angeles family when he rents their backyard guest house and goes on to expose the desire, deceit, and obsession that lurks around every corner.

Homewreckers (streaming)
· Starring: Glen Powell, no one else announced yet
· Summary: An erotic thriller with a sci-fi twist, with tonal comparisons to the steamy, dangerous territory of Adrian Lyne thrillers and the unsettling genre ideas of Alex Garland.

Persona
· Directed by: Paul Feig
· Summary: In the vein of the Fatal Attraction film with a “modern twist.”

Girls in London, 1999
· Written and directed by: Tyler-Marie Evans
· Summary: An erotic thriller set against the faded opulence of late-90’s London. A “hypnotic blend of Eyes Wide Shut and Basic Instinct,” the film follows a woman who flees Los Angeles after a breakup and reinvents herself as a theater director in London, only to be drawn into the city’s underground sex clubs – just as a string of murders begins.

Basic Instinct Reboot
· Written by Joe Eszterhas
· Summary: Catherine Trammell returns for a “wild and orgasmic ride,” along with her daughter, Jezebel.

Dangerous Liaisons (Netflix)
· Summary: A modern-day reimagining of the 18th century French novel as a globe-trotting, heart-wrenching and scintillating erotic thriller and an unflinching exploration of power, wealth, race and romance amidst the unapologetic sexual appetites of the British ruling class and the new-money elites.

The Decorator (Netflix)
· Summary: A psychosexual drama set in the cutthroat world of luxury interior design in Los Angeles.

Good Bones (Amazon Prime Video)
· Summary: An erotic thriller set in the world of country music, set in Nashville and involving house flipping/renovation.

Fixation
· Summary: A couple’s therapist is drawn into a dangerous triangle of lust, lies, and manipulation.

Exposure
· Summary: A psychosexual thriller with themes of voyeurism, set against a corporate backdrop.

 

I think y'all are missing the point of that lioness review. It's more a criticism of Taylor Sheridan's awful, awful writing than someone being overly sensitive/offended.

I will say that the criticism is completely unfounded (especially when dealing with Saldana). She is an Exec Producer on the show and had to re-sign for the 3rd season of the show after winning the Oscar. There is not a single thing her character does or shows that she is not in favor of doing. If someone wants to complain that Sheridan is exploiting actresses then you might be able to make that point about the daughter on Landman but Lioness is nothing but actresses in their 30s and 40s completely aware of what they are doing, these aren't girls walking on to their first TV set.

You're right that Zoe Saldana is an exec producer and a seasoned star so isn't being exploited, but the review part that was quoted here and started all this doesn't say anything about exploiting the actresses, so that doesn't seem relevant... I haven't read the full review so maybe it's in there and correct me if so, but seems like you're responding to a criticism that wasn't there?

There are plenty of comments in here about Taylor Sheridan's shows and praising how he gets actresses to do nudity, so we all know he puts in a lot of it. The lizard part of my brain enjoys it of course but the thinking part of my brain knows it's mostly gratuitous and can't really justify how much he does it (do his shows do male nudity as well?). To me it's not inherently unreasonable to criticize Sheridan as being overly enamored with gratuitous female nudity, or female nudity in the context of humiliation.

 

I mean, isnt the reason we come to this site to see female nudity? Is there a sect of people who visit this site (celeb extra specifically) who are against female nudity in shows? Gratuitous female nudity is kind of the point here.

 

I think times have changed a lot if people are coming on sites/forums like phun and are criticizing someone for gratuitous nudity

 

Wanting to see a celebrity in a nude scene and thinking Taylor Sheridan is an awful writer are not mutually exclusive concepts.

Sure...but people who frequent forums like phun saying he is an awful writer because his shows often contain "gratuitous nudity" is hypocritical at best...that is like criticizing Sydney Sweeney for being nude in almost all her films and then hoping that she is nude once again in her next film

 

I understand why you say that, but maybe another way to think about it. If you liked the taste of Twinkies, would it be hypocritical for you to agree with someone else who said they're a low quality mass-produced food? I can enjoy a sweet food even as I say it's actually junk food, and I don't think that's hypocrisy.

Comparing Tyler to Taylor is ridiculous...
sheridan is a good writer, has made incredible shows and Tyler kinda makes soapy content.
Yes, they're both popular and talented, but c'mon!

 

Michelle Randolph was 27 when she did that scene in Landman and it wasn’t her first nudity for Taylor. She was 25 when she went naked in 1923 S01E03.
