Ugh...I guess I'm the only one defending this. Rugby and aussie rules, which I have seen, don't throw the ball forward. American Footballers throw forward which involves neck-braking, bone shattering hits. People don't walk again. They live shorter lives. Much tougher game even with pads. Thank goodness for the pads and helmets. I'd like to see goalies like keller take a full speed block to the grill.

    Again....nice ass :)

Are we really getting into this again?

American Football is an American sport, and has never, and will never, spread very far beyond their borders. It is no surprise to me that almost all of the popular American sports are only really popular there. Nascar, baseball, american football, ice hockey (too a degree), basketball (too a lesser degree)

AF is not a sport - oh, they have to be athletes and all that jazz, but there's no real skill involved, except for the guy that throws and the guy that runs and catches. Almost the entire rest of the team is meat to be thrown at each other.

Compare AF to rugby, and it's no contest; rugby is an entire team game, a ball flowing majestically across the green from one man to another. It is a truly exceptional thing to behold.

Football, football played well, is another amazing event. True, sometimes you'll watch a boring game that ends nil-nil. But sometimes you'll watch one of the best games you ever seen....and it may still end nil-nil.

This does not mean it's a bad game.

We have to agree to disagree on what's best, but Americans have to admit that `their` sports do not travel well beyond their sphere of influence.

Unlike tennis, cricket, football, rugby, hockey, snooker......darts.

I agree with most of what you guys are saying , The thing is , Soccer or what ever you wanna call it has and never will be a big sport over here , for some reason it just doesnt catch on in the professional ranks , nobody over here plays rugby and definately not professionally.
Both sports i really enjoy by the way as i'm a huge , huge fan of sports of all kinds (womens volleyball especially).
I'm a big fan of the NFL , so , sports seem to be a regional thing , i cannot name one single rugby player , not because i dont like the sport but because it is not at all prevalant over here just as others here probably can't name any hockey players.
All sports are awesome , So ...Dont be offended if i cant name any of the athletes that are famous in your area.

I'm more than happy to admit that AF is a big American game, if Americans would admit that football/soccer (if you must) is a globally more popular sport. ;)

It stays like that until you hit 1500 posts.

Then you can change it to what you like

I love American Football, its an excellent sport and does take great skill, it has similarities to a chess game in my opinion. The only thing that pisses me off about it is all the bloody delays all the time. I sometimes prefer watching the highlights repeated the next day as it cuts out all the timewasting and you just get action. Steelers to win on sunday, Ben Roethlisberger is hard as fuck.

But American Football just doesn't even compare to the people's game.......football.

    Come on United!! ;)
