Therefore, please do not use imagebam, or any host, that provides live playing gifs in those specific threads. If you see your gif playing once you post, try to use a smaller thumbnail and if that does not work use a different approved host.

    Hey Phun,

I've been ripping DvD scenes and posting them here the last few days. I was wondering if anyone could tell me when converting dvd to avi, what codec is the best one to use for quality vs. file size? I've done a few and some are pretty big files but short or smaller files but quality suffers. Just looking for a good balance. Any tips would be appreiated.......Thanks!!

I find DivX usually gives a good balance between quality and file size.

For a 30 minute scene a bitrate of ~ 800kps gives you a file size of approximately 200mb while a full 90 minute movie equals about 600mb. Of course you can go higher or lower but if you want to keep the quality then I wouldn't go much lower than that.

EDIT: I forgot to add that audio compression also makes a huge difference in the file size ;)
