Sharingmatrix and Hotfile

All I know for sure is all the options suck donkey balls. SharingMatrix is slower than syrup, same with hotfile.

MegaUpload seems to be the best, but with everyone going in different directions it appears that this great message board is doomed.

 

Where do you live. I average around 1000kbps with free hotfile. Anyways, not our fault crapidshare decided to fuck themselves with the new policy change.

As a leecher (BTW, thanks to ALL for your generous postings), I will say that we are contributing to most of you by downloading your clips and therefore generating traffic so that you can earn "points" and get your free accounts.

It would be nice if you could keep the total file size for a scene smaller (say under 250mb). But, I/we leechers understand the more we download, the more points you get.

That being said, hotfile would be nice.

 

Oh well - I'm a serial leecher but it looks like the game is up. I'd truly like to thank all of the fantastically kind people who have uploaded to RS and I only wish I could've offered more in return.

I don't know much about these new filehosts but they look proper shit so it may well be that my "phun" is ending soon. Sad - and I'm sure I won't be the only one.

 

Although I have switched totally to hotfile, things have gotten waaay toooo crazy in the sexy video section. Please mods do something, even if it requires removing the two new file host. This non-sense has really started to ruin the forum. As much as I hate RS, I would still rather upload to those fuckers, than deal with all these crap post! Dont let the forum continue to slide in quality. Some times you got to do what you got to do!

In all my years downloading and uploading, my first choice has been MU . They are fast, dependable and have no upload limits and download is reasonable. You can download a whole movie with 20 files in one session.HF seems to be progressing in the wrong way.Before they were a bit like MU .Now they seem to have a wait period after a file download. At night on MU i can multi donwnload several files in one session. So....MU is still the best. RS...Screw you.

 

one of the biggest issues I am seeing in this section now is the explosion of reposts by the "new" posters (some of who, have apparently been lurking here for several years). With the hundreds of posts they have contributed this week, damn little is "new", except maybe to them.

2nd bitch on my part: posters who have not actually viewed their clips/vids, and therefore the titles have nothing to do with their posts. There needs to be a way to ban or at least limit these point-whores.

 

Ok... I decided to take some time today to do an analysis of the four main filehosters used here: Rapidshare, Megaupload, Hotfile, & Sharingmatrix.

I want to put the caveat that I did this test as a free unregistered user - outside of Rapidshare, I don't have premium accounts to the others so it would've been a bit hard to test premium services.

So for the test, I used a 107 MB zip file to be uploaded and downloaded using the free user services of each hoster between 3pm - 9pm PST. I'm located on the West coast of the United States as speeds and download times for me may differ from others from different locations.

Rapidshare - Switzerland

Uploading: 37kb/s average speed
Estimated finish time: 45 minutes (actual time 47 minutes)
Downloading: 75kb/s average speed
Estimated finish time: 22 minutes (actual time 21 minutes)
15 minute cool down time between downloads

Megaupload - Hong Kong

Uploading: 165kb/s average speed
Estimated finish time: 2 minutes 45 secs (actual time 3 minutes)
Downloading: 142kb/s average speed
Estimated finish time: 13 minutes (actual time 13 minutes)
45 seconds cool down time between downloads

Hotfile - Panama

Uploading: unknown kb/s average speed (not shown)
Estimated finish time: 33 minutes (actual time 22 minutes)
Downloading: 160kb/s average speed
Estimated finish time: 11 minutes (actual time 10 minutes)
30 minute cool down time between downloads

Sharingmatrix - Netherlands

Uploading: 34kb/s average speed
Estimated finish time: not shown (actual time: 57 minutes unconfirmed)
Downloading: 77kb/s average speed
Estimated finish time: 22 minutes (actual time 24 minutes)
10 minute cool down time between downloads

I want to make a special note to Sharingmatrix (soon to be FileSonic) uploading times... I had trouble uploading the 107 MB file on SM after 3 tries:

1st time: Upload stopped at 67% completion
2nd time: After upload completed, I was diverted to a "server maintenance, try again later" page
3rd time: After upload completed, the page kept refreshing for 10 minutes without a link to the file. SO, I gave up.
So, couldn't download the exact 107MB file that I had been using, so downloaded a 108MB file from another SM uploader to get the download stats. (GHE's to be exact).

Summary

So, from my perspective overall, Megaupload has a lot going for it, in terms of it's quality speed for uploads and downloads - the 45 second cooldown time is especially nice.

Hotfile has faster download speeds, but the 30 minute cooldown time between downloads hurts a bit - a 2nd place finish.

Sharingmatrix comes in third BARELY - the download speeds are decent despite the 10 minute cooldown - but my upload test really turned me off from SharingMatrix. I may have caught SM on a server maintenance period, but after 3 tries within 3 hours, that's just pretty poor. Maybe it'll be improved once they change to their new FileSonic brand.

Rapidshare comes in last - their upload speeds are average, download speeds are ok but come with a 15 minute wait time. MOST OF ALL, files uploaded as a free user are only good for 10 downloads. If you want to keep them up longer, you have to pay to host your files.

Bearing in mind that this is as a free user, you'll get faster speeds as a member. I would be willing to sacrifice 3 minutes of download time for faster uploads and a filehost who seems to know what they're doing, i.e. MU.

At the end of the day, I'm not gonna bother uploading any more files until this settles down. Rapidshit can go suck my cock.

I've been using it for as long as I can remember with Rapidshare and if a file is on Netload and Rapidshare (1 link) I'll choose Netload every single time. It hits my 10mb download limit every single time, and if anyone has 20mb why don't they try a file out to see if the free part even hits 20mb?

i'm a premium member to both rapidshare and hotfile.

hotfile costs $55 a year... this is 15 cents per day to get your jerk on as well as unlimited movies and games.

rapidshare costs $67 a year... this is 18 cents per day to get your jerk on as well as unlimited movies and games.

are we really complaining about 2 dimes per day for what we use these file servers for? whether it is for uploads or downloads???

oh and btw, with cryptload i download about 4-5 megs per second from each of these servers. i do not have a preference because they are both fast as hell. a 1 gig movie takes me about 10 minutes if that.




this is what i get with hotfile, so no complaints from my end.

 

I think leechers should be happy they can get almost anything free (or for a few cents/day, as icewater mentioned) and not complain about uploaders' hosts.

I guess the problem is that unlike before when Rapidshare was host nearly everyone used it wasn't a problem, just buy a Rapidshare premium account and load up on clips!! Now that nobody is using Rapidshare the problem is-

1. I'm stuck with a premium account that is somewhat useless

2. There is no clear favorite here to fall back on. Once the dust settles I'll get a premium membership to whichever file host comes out on top, but for now it's just a pain in the ass. SM has 10 minute waits at time and HF has a 1 download per half hour limit for free users.


It would be easier if Phun just picked a Host and everyone used it, like MU or something, but for right now everything is a big clusterfuck.
