Dealing for years with scumbag hosts found on many non-English sites, I learned to stay ready to re-image my HD, a good idea for anybody swimming in the $$$wamp.

Viruses, Trojans, and spyware can come from any host.
All three came to me in part 2 of a 7 part dl from RS last week.
I had already become accustomed to this, but not from RS.

So why had a seemingly lower % of ‘compromised individuals’ been using RS for their bad craziness, putting money first and foremost?
As an example, FileSonic’s (SM) blog concerns me for appealing to people for the wrong reasons. You can decide if the approach is good for Phun. Is this the mentality that will bring back a higher level of quality to posts?
    -
I figure it is likely that greed or the government will take care of the devil’s offspring, who will end up feeding on each other as in any Ponzi scheme. When new suckers stop signing on, then new money to pay old promises will disappear.
Ponzi would have been happy to receive money for services yet to be delivered, and content to exchange for future cheese.
    -
With no friends among the Mods and Gods here, I still have to give them credit…especially when looking at other boards. One major forum was awake enough to close registration to new members on July 7, but sold out with banner ads for SM and Oron.
    -
End of an Era – a Tragic Soap Opera. Then we have the case of ‘that other site’ forcing Oron as an exclusive host that everybody must use. banning RS and MU. The (new?) owner backed down a bit, but they interestingly refer to Oron in their allowed list as their ‘primal’ (primitive) host when they mean to say ‘primary’.
After changing many rules and firing every Mod, now there are droids and new mega posters, including one overly generous guy who loaded 1200 movies and full DVD titles in his first three days as a member.
Imagine the accusations, fear, loathing, and discontent.
Anybody doubt where this is going, or what it is patterned after?
Phun discussions about hosts and daily post maximums are quoted in their threads......so maybe we should say Hello!
    -
Nature hates a vacuum. The Gold Rush of 2010 happened so quickly when new hosts were allowed that few forums had time to close their doors to new membership.
Closing the gates well after the dogs have been let out, and the cows have escaped, makes little sense. The die has already been cast, a new process is in motion. Phun is being born again.
    -
I’m somewhat relieved now that host initials must be stated, and agree that capacity is needed to run a board this size. Looking around at the options, none are acceptable, just less tolerable than others.
    -
Phun has decided that they need adequate host capacity to function, they should know. Transparency is always welcome. but even if they, or those associated, are directly or indirectly benefited by accepting some host as an option, it would be just one of many incentives, compensations, considerations, or privileges….wouldn’t it?
There is a choice of hosts, and I have no interest in paying the bills as part of a membership fee, and even less in being a Mod.

Frankly, I'm sort of encouraged at what has happened in the last week, I see somewhat less of the junk we saw initially and I also see a BIG decrease in SM only hosted posts and even a lessening of the overall use of SM, I'm guessing the mods are getting plowed in trashing posts but I think things MIGHT be finding an equilibrium that I personally can live with. Having said that I think the new rules are a good start and I would encourage even stricter posting rules, posting limits and a 'holding pen' system for new members to help keep things going in the right direction.

definately agree with the holding pen idea, something like, new members 3 post per day and to scale up. That would at least curtail those members just jumping on the bandwagon and those that clearly do not post in the spirit of this forum. It is annoying now, you post something and its gone off the first page in seconds lol

only theoretically and under very specific circumstances, let's say if you're using WinZip or WinRAR downloaded from respective official web-site to unpack - you're safe

When Rapidshare announced on June 18th that they were discontinuing the Rapidpoints system, that was your cue to not renew your subscription.

Yes, we can try it all we like but I doubt we'll be able to download anything. I've been trying to get a file from them for a week and I'm still waiting 600 seconds.

Let's face it: the situation's utterly crap at the moment. Since RS's amazing lubeless self-assfucking manoeuvre about a month ago, none of the other filesharing hosts can meet (or care about meeting) the suddenly high demand from non-paying users. So unless you're prepared to hand over money to SM, HF, DF and maybe one or two others, you'll just have to accept you'll be endlessly fucked around whenever you try to download anything.

…pretty much put it into a spoon sized bite.
    -
Just like the 9-11 attack, RS 7-1 will always be remembered.
The change of structure, and RS ‘going over’ have even more significance than eliminating the free Collector’s accounts and the points system.
    -
They have powerful allies now, and WikiLeaks has given the Feds a sort of ‘Manifest Destiny’ . Homeland Security and US Customs are united to meet the threat of ‘counterfeiters’, pirates, and terrorists.
    -.
The successful confiscation of Domain names, and the even more successful threat of investigations has given lawyers new hope in these difficult economic times.
    -
The loss of a valuable domain, the threat of investigations and consequences on the private and social lives of the families involved, not to mention fines, lawyers fees, and jail time, have provided lucrative returns for those who have suffered copyright infringement.

Unless you download alot of movies from HD movie sites. I mean not porn, but regular movies that many people still host on rapidshare. I watch a lot of movies on my pc so my account is still being used. Still, many people are starting to use HF, but on well. Old guys like myself can't keep up. LOL:)

Ain't that the truth. I hate waiting 2 hours to download a file as a free user. I usually buy one premium membership a month and make due. The thing is I like to download my porn and regular HD movies. I find that many regular movies are on RS and most adult flicks are on HF or SM. I just can't win it seems.:2cent:
