Well I was turning up the buds at a pretty good rate while she was performing the anthem. Along with having a conversation with the people I was watching the Super Bowl with. I commented on the really red lip stick she was wearing, and thought to myself that she would look great blowing me with those red lips. Her actual singing was average, nothing to bitch about. I didnt even notice that she bumbled the words until I read it here, and later saw the coverage on tv. If people really want something to bitch about, how about the Godaddy spot with Joan Rivers. Fuckers set me up. Had me looking for a hottie, then springs Joan Rivers bent up face up there. I so wish I could un-see that!!

So let me get this straight -

It's OK to screw up this country's national anthem - which is not that hard to do correctly, as I've seen six year olds do it at Minor League baseball games - but all is forgiven because "she looked good"?

First, no, she didn't look good. She's lost some weight since the Burlesque press tour but her face is still very bloated. She may have a drinking problem or something, if the stories about her crashing Renner's birthday party and the Julianne Hough thing have any gravity to them.

Secondly, she was given a job - sing a song in 2 minutes that's performed across the country, every day. She did not use a teleprompter, she did it acapella, and she oversang the whole song to compensate for the fact that she didn't hit the lyrics properly.

Your JOB is to sing the song properly. She did not do a good JOB because she didn't get it RIGHT.

If you want to call me a hater, go ahead, but I've been a big fan of Aguilera for awhile. But something's happened in the last year that's made her looks go downhill very fast and to be honest, if you're paid millions of dollars to be a professional performer/singer, the least you can do is get the actual song you've been hired to sing correct.

but, if she really was pumped to sing it, like she claims, since she was a kid, then know the words. Does she forget the words to her own songs onstage? I would think not, which just leads me to believe that she doesn't respect the words she was singing, that it was just an opportunity to showcase herself in front of billions of people, and if that's the case, which IMO I believe to be the case, then don't sing the song.

 

She's fat, stupid, and now a terrible American.... End of discussion

 

I honestly think she was more focused on belting it out and going for a "Whitney Moment" then doing it right.

 

Who cares that she flubbed? Not a big deal at all to me. Not like she did it on purpose.

The National Anthem shouldn't be performed before sporting events. What's the point? I don't have to honor my country when I go to see a movie. Same thing with sporting events - it's entertainment for fuck's sake.

 

Because it's tradition. Football is the only one of the four major US Sports that is uniquely American - American football is not really played anywhere else in the world.

So the excuses we have so far are:

1) She messed up but she still looked "good"
2) Why do we even have the anthem to begin with?

I guarantee these comments are not being made if "Back to Basics" era Christina came out and did an understated, soulful version of the Anthem.

 

So, what words did she get wrong?

Are "Woooooh-ooooh-wharble-ooooohhh" and "Yeeeeeaaaghhhh-whooo-ah-eyeeeaaahhh!" not the correct words then?

 

Let Borat from Kazachstan sing the anthem next year.

Okay, yes she messed up. I feel sorry for her because she'll have to live with it.

The biggest issue is she tried to make it too big and not only changed the words, but changed the melody dramatically.

But, I still think she looked good.
