    Let's start with this...
    Let me know if there's any problems with any of this.

    Get photoscape http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/download.php (it's free, no banners, and no trial stuff that expires...)

    Get SMPlayer http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/downloads.php

    Take a clip of whatever you have and play it in the smplayer. At the top menu you'll see "video" click that...you'll then see a "start/stop taking screenshots"

    Go to the part of the video you want to gif and click the start/stop (or shift+D) once to begin the image grabbing and then click it again when you want to stop.

    The images should appear on the screen.

    Any problems yet?

    decided to give making a gif a whirl. seems off to me though
    I think I got an okay speed but it sorta jumps somewhere in there

    used future futurprez's method for this. I'll next try spiders' too maybe

    this one was sorta a pain(not really that bad though)
    had to copy the frames in reverse, then name them so as to keep continuity of the originals
    i.e.
    F1,F2,F3 was copied so F3's copy became F4, F2's copy became F5 and F1's copy became F6 thus making F1,F2,F3,F4,F5,F6,
    I did this to keep it smooth instead of just jumping back to the beginning

    can anyone tell me is there an easier way to do this? seems there should be

    I've used .AVI and .MP4 I didn't need to convert

    just a heads up
    when you capture the frames they are saved to "*user*"/.smplayer/screenshots
    just drag the frames you want to PhotoScape

    Yeah my vids get saved as MP4. but for some reason I cant get SMPlayer to "Start/Stop Taking Screenshots"?

    I didnt have a "screenshots" folder so I created one & the & the start/stop frames lit up & I can capture frames!! MANY THANKS BROTHER!!!
