The way I see it, the founder (I think his name is Anton Kushnov, or something Russian like that), has made all the money he could. He's probably not doing any maintenance or anything - just letting the autonomous functions of Hotfile run and occasionally shutting down accounts. Any money made now - from new HF customers ignorant of what has happened with HF - is just bonus money. It's just too bad - it seemed most people here at Phun could upload and download from Hotfile with little difficulty. Filesonic seems to have improved a little bit, but still not quite as well-received as Hotfile.

It's just a matter of time before Filesonic dominates the HTTP downloading world as Hotfile Alexa rank keeps going down and Filesonic rank going up ( standing at 167 now). Filesonic however, is trying to appeal to more business people but diversifying their offerings for backup and storage , a very smart move. You know what they say " Don't put all your eggs in one basket".;)

Is anyone having download speed problems with Filesonic? I'm a premium user and my speeds often sit around 700 kb/s.

Yeah, I paid for a subscription and it's no different than if you download for free. I won't renew.

I would still like to see depositfiles added as an option here, but that's just my opinion. If you're a frequent uploader, you actually can get their premium access (they call it a gold subscription) for nothing. And the download and upload speeds are both very good. Not only that, but depositfiles seems to be widely used on many other forums besides this one. Again just my :2cent:

Weird! I used to complain constantly up until about two weeks ago when my Premier FS download time improved from 20-40kps to the present 400-1.5Gps. There is no explaining the fluctuation other than possibly sun spots. Occasionally I get one that won't open but if I wait a couple of hours and go back to it, I can then download it. I've been a Premier subscriber about six months now due to the fact that FS is the sysyem most uploaders use. I still prefer HF with MU as a backup, but FS is a necessity if you want to download.

For me, teaming my premium FS with jdownloader seems to routinely get me over 1Mb/s. I can generally bring down a 350-400 Mb file in under 4 minutes, so I'm not complaining.

... Well, not really, but found this kinda interesting.

As a pioneer in One Click File Hosting, RapidShare has often ventured into unknown territory, to find the best product for its customers. Now it's time to properly clean up the inventor's workshop, because everything that just sucks finally has to go. Immediately and permanently, RapidPro price include all services indefinitely. This means:

    * Your storage space: As of now, automatic file deletion will no longer exist. With RapidPro, your files are saved until you delete them yourself!
    * Your Traffic: From now on, it is absolutely unlimited. TrafficShare included. It’s that easy!
    * Your data transfer rate: We have polished up our software! Uploads, as well as downloads, have been successfully carried out at 500 MBit/s per stream!
    * Your safety: Politics call for the complete monitoring of all internet users. We protect you with automatic SSL-encryption.

So, Rapidshare has done away with storage limits (for now) and traffic limits (for now). There are still limits to how long inactive files will be left on the servers before deletion (30 days)... dare I say, Rapidshare learning from their mistakes?

I'm a Premium user and would be extremely happy if I had constant download speeds in the 700 range. During the last two weeks I have been getting speeds in the 400 to 1.5G range. Prior to that, I was lucky to get speeds over 100kb/s most of the time with occasional days in the 500kb/s range. I fully believe downloader location is a factor as is, naturally, the number of people downloading from FS at the same time.

Plus it appears they may have increased wait times for "free" users in an attempt to extort more people to buy those stupid "Rapids", whose value seems to change at a whim.

Since they keep changing their rules, I'll be damned if I will trust them - again. I went from having about 6 years worth of points built up, to having 14 months of premium left, to having an expired account - all in about 6 months.

It seems to be if you want to dl 3 links to get a flick: 190 seconds first link; 18 minutes 2nd link; 23 minutes 3rd links for free users.

So it will take 2 hours to dl with 43 minutes of wait time btw dls, and 15-20 minutes per dl.

I'm sure it's very hard to run a hosting service, ever expanding space needed, ever shrinking revenues, and 99% of all the hosts are porn. Tough business!

Looks like RapidShare realize its idiocy, probably lost a shit-ton of market share, and has decided to return to a system that is somewhat less stupid. Got this email this morning:

Basically, it boils down to it now being 6 Euros per month, no matter what.

Fuck those lying, cheating fuckers at Rapidshare. They have always had the idea that all uploaders are stupid fucks that they can cheat, manipulate, and then tell them anything and they will believe it. Their policy should be, "We will tell you what you want to hear, and fuck you in the end. Over and over, until you come to your senses!"

My advice to any file sharer, stay clear of these fuckers!

So, Rapidshare announced a few more changes yesterday:

RapidShare offers RapidPro customers more than ever before. As always, we put great importance on quality and reliability. In order to maintain our service in the long term, in the future we will adjust our prices. Bargain hunters and loyal customers should pay attention to the Professional Package, by which, contrary to the trend, you can get RapidPro 10% cheaper than before (99,- Euro instead of the so far 110,- Euro). Without restrictions, all packages include the full scope RapidShare services. Only the duration varies. The new RapidPro prices will be valid from next Wednesday, May 18, 2011.

From my observations, unless you pay up front for either the extended month services (either the Student or Professional packages), it's going to cost an additional 4 Euros more per month (over their previous payment system) if users choose to go month to month instead of paying for the Student or Professional packages. It is quite a bit cheaper to month-to-month if you opt for the Professional package, but obviously you're paying up front for 2 years of Rapidshare.

Not sure what this means for those that still have Rapids points - I can only assume that they'll be charged at the "Test Package" rate... I figure, the sooner Rapidshare can deplete the Rapids points from older users, the sooner those older users will need to start paying. :|

Also, they started up a commission's based reward system where if you recommend and get other "friends" to sign up for Rapidshare, you get a 30% commission in Rapids points. Don't know how successful that will be.
