Damn, that's a good chunk. Hope you got a very good surgeon! It is common but also it being your colon easy to get septic if it's not sewn back properly. Be sure and finish ALL of your antibiotics prior.

It's septic right now. There's a puncture in my intestine. That's what started this whole thing. I was a couple days from ... who knows?

Bama, sounds like that is a tick more than a routine hernia repair......the major portion of the recovery will the the healing of the abdominal muscle wall from the incision....

I have had four hernia repairs, first one at age 6 and last one at age 47......not fun, but most survivable...

That's why I have a drainage tube/plastic bag hanging from my lower abdomen.

VERY sad but VERY true, unless something horrific happens like a car wreck or the such.
 I didn't know you were septic. Your body must be very strong, a LOTof people don't make it very long after they turn(my step-mother being one). No wonder your on such strong antibiotics. If it's caught in time and there's a known antibiotic then being septic can be cured. Obviously for what ever infection you've got there's a known cure or surgery wouldn't be an option. By rule of thumb if they think there's anyway possible they could lose you on the table they won't perform it. So there's that, as real or blunt as that may sound, there's something should have you rest a little easier. I'll be praying for you.

 You'll be fine sir, have faith :D

On a brighter note, I'm looking forward to seeing Justin Verlander pitch for the Tigers tonight on TV. That's the plan.

Again, I didn't realize the severity. But still, these operations are considered common believe it or not. They are at this facility anyway.

The antibiotics are strong and they got the drainage going on time. (I was in the hospital for two 6-day periods in the last 6 weeks. It went away after the first hospital stay and drug regimen, but it came back, so I had to go back to the hospital. The second time they sent me home with a drain tube again and IV drugs this time.)

The sheer fact that your home is a very good sign. As much as of a pain in the ass that it is taking all the stuff that you're taking it shows they can get you through this. Believe me, in this day and time (warning:another blunt comment), if's there's doubt they would be giving you more pain meds than antibiotics to help you die confortably. It's just the way medicine is practiced here in the US.

I've got to run, PM if you want to talk pm.

Have a good evening people! :bye:
