Sure... there's Megaupload. And guess what? It's been one of the approved filehosts here at Phun for awhile now.

So true... in Europe and in the US BUT here where I live MU used to be till a couple of years ago the best free host. These days upload speeds are close to dial up.

Same here, for the past 3-4 days now. It's ridiculously aggravating, since so many posters on here use filesonic almost exclusively. I'd always heard it was about "the money," but hey--they can't get any money if no one can download the files, can they--??! :(

Someone a few days ago replied that they "were working on it..." Probably like hotfile "worked" on all their files a few months back. Ha.

Hmm... I know you mean "most uploaders" don't use these certain hosts anymore. Cuz i know a dozen guys here at Phun who still use Megaupload. But I'm pinching pennies...

What will be interesting is, if Filesonic does go the Hotfile route and start banning accounts en masse, how those uploading purely for webdollars will react here at Phun. There's been a few already asking to open up to more filehosts like Fileserve & Wupload (the latter is, coincidentally, owned by Filesonic I believe :33:). I'm quite curious to see how aggressive Filesonic will be in the next month and what happens here at Phun.

I highly doubt that - of all the filehosts I've tried uploading to in the past, the absolute worse was Oron, where I got a rather pitiful 30-32 kb/sec. That's barely above dialup upload speeds. Out of all the filehosts I currently use, Megaupload gives me the absolute best - 150kb/s and more. And that's as a free user.

I'm going to venture a guess here - the Filesonic model has been good for the past 2-3 years for the company, but it's pretty much going to run its endgame course in the next year or so of being profitable. That's why they started up Wupload - new filehost brand, new filehost product for people to buy. Won't be surprised if Filesonic is completely phased out in a couple years with Wupload to replace. Just a thought.

1st - Is Wupload owned by Filesonic?!?!? Dodgy people.
2nd - I reckon you didnt understand me. What I meant was just upload speed itself. 2 minutes ago I did an upload test. Results:
    Oron - 600kbps+
    MU - 32kbps

Download speeds I can't tell at Oron cause I avoid it as much as I can. MU is bit like Filesonic. Sometimes as free user am downloading 1mbps+ and the next file gives me 100kpbs-. The best combo upload/download speed here is Hotfile but is phased out.

It suddenly started working again on the 12th, but stopped again yesterday. I haven't checked it yet today. :(

Also, wupload (as mentioned above) was doing the same thing.

I finally got enough points to try MU as a Premium member and except for no wait times or d/l limits, I do not think it is really worth it, as the dl speed rarely goes over the Registered Free User and when it does, it's only a bit faster. And, the upload speed remains constant in the 180 - 240 Kbps range.

i mean its so easy...why not allowing all filehosts with the mandatory task to post it at least on one of the allowed filehosters

All I can get ( last week or so ) is a "dead" page called secure data logistics. Free downloads seem to have vanished @ the moment - can anyone comment/help please?!

May be you know this may be not but Hotfile has lost another legal battle this week and are being forced to disclose a lot of member info as the company itself is being forced to pay damages for copyright violations. To those who have prenium accounts with Hotfile, you are in serious trouble of being sued . If i were you guys, stay away from Hotfile

Well, the somewhat good news is that the MPAA (Motion Pictures Association of America - the guys suing Hotfile) is very unlikely to go after individual uploaders. Furthermore, the IP addresses of uploaders will be masked.

The bad news is the MPAA will likely go after affiliates to either add them to the suit or in some cases, use affiliates and their information to help prosecute Hotfile further.

You can read more about it here:
    http://www.digital-digest.com/news-...oader-and-Downloader-Details-to-the-MPAA.html

    Code:

I'm not going to cry over Hotfile necessarily - but this does set an interesting precedent; if Hotfile is going to bow to MPAA pressure and possibly reveal IP addresses and what not, then it could very well apply to other filehosts as well.

Those who are sharing using Hotfile may do well to heed overfiend's advice, as this might very well be the death knell of Hotfile.

This probably exposes me to ridicule, but I'll ask and hope that other people had the same question. I am curious about what/who exactly are affiliates?

I personally find this to be pretty sound advice. I have stopped using HF for most things. This, in my opinion, is why Filesonic is superior = located in Hong Kong. Similarly, Rapidshare in Switzerland (not considering the other issues people have with RS). HF was located in the US, if I understand correctly. Which makes them easily subjected to US law. Not that the other companies aren't subject to US law (they do have contact and do business with US customers), but it would be harder to enforce on companies located in other countries.

Anyway, would love to hear others thought.

    Thanks in advance.

Someone with a better idea (i.e. who owns a blog/website) can answer this question better, but in short, if you own a blog and/or website, if you want to earn more rewards from various filehosters, you can choose to become an "affiliate" where you earn rewards from actually referring visitors to your site to using different filehosts. This includes putting an ad banner on your website, smart-linking your download links and so on. That's the short version - I'm sure someone else can detail out exactly how the affiliate program works.

Hong Kong is the Asian version of "Switzerland" in some ways. ;)

As for Hotfile, they were headquartered in South America (Argentina if I remember correctly), but they had servers in North America (mostly Florida I think). I think most filehosters also have servers in North America, so I don't think that was the reason for pursuing Hotfile - I just think they were an easier target as there were some rumors that other filehost companies pointed the finger to Hotfile. :31:

As the saying goes, "there's no honor among thieves."
