    I heard that to get a star you basically have to pay for it because you have to give some association some sort of fee or something. I'd like to know if that's true.

    Usually a movie company or record company will sponsor you, submit your name, and front the money for the star.

    ^ Very true. Your sponsor has to fill out an application for you, and if accepted, it will cost $15,000 to install and maintain your star.
