Poll: If we were to allow Depositfiles as an approved host?.............

Deposit has a limit 20 gb per day for Premium Accounts, but speeds are quite good. Besides, you can easily get Gold-Keys. Oron is only good for you if you have Premium account (I do ).

Bitshare isn't an option at all.

 

As a long time depositfiles downloader and uploader, I can tell you from my experience especially recently, that the slow d/l speed is somehow directly related to the file. I have had multiple files in my download manager que and one of them will be as you described above and then the others good a decent speed for free users of around 200-300 kbps. Why it works that way I honestly don't know unless it's somehow related to the locale of the person who uploaded the file. Here's a screenshot of my download manager of a file I'm currently downloading as a free user from depositfiles:





As you can see it's a very decent speed for a free user.

 

You're right, BB... I just tested Depositfiles with that same file you listed above... was going about 250kbps. Which means it could be locale as you suggested, or it could be how recent the file has been downloaded/how busy the links are being downloaded. The file you listed has been up since May of last year, while the file I was testing was uploaded a couple days ago. Which makes sense - if a bunch of people are going to download one file, everyone is going to experience slow download speeds.

So, it's probably safe to assume that if DF gets approved here, any new uploads on DF are going to be a pain to download. Sucky.

 

I've used Depositfile as a free user and found it generally has crap download speed. However, I agree with the others that it's one of the only good choices at the moment.

My biggest concern is not so much download quality, but quality of posts. For the last year or so Phun has been overrun with shitty cashwhores, and I hate to see anything that will encourage them to proliferate here.

 

The thing is depositfiles no longer pays users that reside in the USA. Now sure we have users outside of the US, but I think a majority of the posters here reside in the US, which means there's no financial incentive for them to use depositfiles.

DepositFiles is overloaded right now, people say they have more visits per day than Rapidshare did. The speed for free users is around 10-20 kb/s...

 

i got around 100 - 150 kbps from depositfiles as free user, so is not that bad

 

depositfiles used to be cool but laetly they've been capping their speeds too
mediafire and minus are the fastest at the moment

approve depositfiles and please make a vote for filefactory also because filefactory also survive when most of filehosting down.

 

Disapprove depositfiles they blocking accounts with money without no reasons so i think better is bitshare!!!

@boobsjuggsdotcom filefactory upload is only for premium users so this is nothing like a scam!!!

So two weeks into poll, and the majority approve that Depositfiles should be added... so I guess it's inevitable that it will be added.

As i said earlier, I don't mind DF being added - but it shouldn't be the ONLY filehost added, as the recent download speeds of DF for free users are almost as bad as free user RS speeds (at a laughable 30kbps, on par with phone modems back in the late 90's). The sporadic nature of DF download speeds for Free users should be something to be considered, especially if hot new links are going to be capped at subpar 30kbps speeds.

There have been recommendations made in previous replies here - all of them are pretty awful choices, based on the self-interest of virtual cash rewards. :roll:

So, I'd like to recommend 3 filehosts, based on the interest of PURE sharing - I've been using all three in the past year on other boards and with very good results in both upload & download performance. MOREOVER, all three offer good service for free users:

1) Toucansharing - Good upload and download speeds, no-nonsense filesharing service. They offer a point-based rewards program that can ONLY be used towards a premium account, which is quite nice. Some upload limits if your a Free, Registered or Premium member (200mb, 500MB & 1GB respectively). The only downside I've encountered is - since they're sorta new to the filehosting scene - sometimes their servers go offline once or twice a week, from anywhere between 30 minutes to a couple of hours. Not too bad considering the good solid service so far with good file longevity.

2) iFile.it - Fairly good upload and good download speeds, simple interface, fairly solid filesharing service. No rewards program, just a simple filesharing service. 1GB upload limit per file, unlimited capacity with above average file longevity. They're download speeds can be a little slow during peak times but otherwise no huge downsides.

3) Zippyshare - This was a recent discovery from a month back, even tho they've been around since 2006 :mrgreen:. They have only one downside = 200MB upload limit per file. But that downside is offset by offering parallel downloads (i.e. downloading multiple files at the same time). Fast download speeds, good upload speeds, unlimited storage space (30 day limit for inactive files) and remote upload ability... ALL FOR FREE! No premium membership to pay for! :thumbs:

Other possible filesharing services that I'd be "ok" with:

Share-Online.biz - A sorta new German based filesharing service, I've gotten pretty good download speeds and they offer some pretty nice frills with file management and interfaace. Two downsides - they sometimes limit download ports to Free users, so Free users may get the "no download ports available, try again later" message (something Filefactory was notorious for) and rewards system that offers virtual cash rewards that may encourage spamming (supposedly tough to acquire). :|

Fileserve - While they're back and supposedly running at good upload and download speeds, the fact that they shutdown earlier this month and basically screwed former uploaders by deleting files and banning accounts with little warning, kind of makes me hesitate to actually use them.

IMHO, all of the following above are WAY better filesharing services in terms of upload/download service & speeds than the current ones recommended in past replies. I've always held the stance that Free users shouldn't be screwed into buying a premium membership just to download at a decent speeds or endure awful wait times, and all the previous recommendations (i.e. Netload, Filefactory and especially Oron) are notorious for those things.

Again, want to reiterate - adding Depositfiles as an approved filehost is ok, but not as the ONLY filesharing service added. :2cent:

 

What about netload?
As far as I know its not banned in USA or any other country, good download speed for free users, no captcha, stable for long time.

 

Netload has always been notoriously slow for me in the past. So, decided to try it just now, just to see the good download speed for free users.

So I chose a 400MB file and after the first countdown, then had to enter a numeric captcha :31: - finally the download started... 4kbps. Estimated download time? 1 day 2 hours.

Maybe I chose a bad time to download... though I doubt it.
