    If one career isn't working, try another. It seems to have worked for Katharine McPhee. I'm sure it's easier to use her looks with acting. I wasn't all that impressed with her in FOOTLOOSE, though. Apparently she was a 4th or 5th choice for this role. A Nicholas Sparks book. A wouldn't expect any meat to it. A romantic-suspense novel. Meh.

    Everyone in Hollywood does multiple things, or at least wants to do multiple things. And if you get enough name recognition then people will let you do multiple things whether you really deserve to or not. Disney is the worst at it, letting the stars of their shows sing at every turn and then shoving the results down the throats of their audience, most of which is too young to realize that it's not very good. That's why Selena gets a recording contract, and then starts taking voice lessons to learn how to sing, instead of getting a contract because she already knows how to sing.

    The flip side of that is when singers or musicians start doing movies, and get parts largely because their name will bring attention to a project that it might not otherwise receive. Think Mandy Moore, or Timberlake, or JoJo, etc. Julianne's a rarer case since people that start as dancers aren't nearly as common, but it's the same thing.
