Candace Bailey Mega-Post!

This week's spotlight is on 30-year-old Attack of the Show Co-Host, redhead, and former (Junior Olympic) gymnast Candace Bailey. Nearly every single frame has been treated to some form of post-processing, so if you're looking at these and saying, "Hey...these look different from the originals--!", that's why.

Did some cropping, BCS edits, color, etc. (see below) to bring out the details. Some of these are large-ish; check the stats below each thumbnail. Anyways:

Proof that even small-breasted women can 'get their bounce on' given enough gravity and stoppage-of-motion, here we see Candace bounding down the stairs and right into the arms of The Walking Dead creator, Robert Kirkman, after being chased through Comic-Con by zombies.

I hate having to cut scenes mid-action, hopefully you'll agree that the size increase on some of these was worth it.

In case some folks're interested in 'process flow', what I do with these (image post-processed) GIFs is to first extract the frames, decide how I want the final print to look, manually edit ~3-4 images to get an approximate 'working template', and then build a scene-specific script to run as a batch job.

Since most scenes are short (2-3s), you can generally get away with having one script for the entire sequence, but if there are lighting or other changes, sometimes you need more (or do 'em all by hand, which gets tedious fast.)

:arrow: A typical script might look like this:

<Crop> <Resize> <Histogram Stretch> <Color Adjust - Hue/Saturation/Lightness> <Clarify> <Brightness/Contrast> <Highlight/Midtone/Shadow> <Color Balance> <Fade Correction> <Black/White Points> <Backlight> <Fill Flash>

...etc.

Regarding resizing: Since we're not constrained to typical size limitations a la x16 video, you can (in theory) make the canvas size whatever you want, but I've found it best to use either 1) half the initial size, or 2) make both the height and width divisible by an integer (with no remainder), as it gives more predictable results using both Lanczos and Bicubic resampling.

So in the case of - let's say, reducing 720p video to 1/3 size instead of 1/2 (which would give you a whole number for both H x W ) - I generally prefer to crop the left and right pixel (i.e. down to 1278 ) off the video first, then resize the frame.

Then, you simply import into your favorite GIF maker, and away you go!

Some of these might as well be posted as movie clips.
I think the best gifs are more web freindly, don't take so long to load.
Careful frame elimination that doesn't make it jerky takes time but imo worth it.
