So with everything digital these days, what is fake B&W?

 

Not everything is digital. There's the good old celluloid film. And, what ever you do, you can never digitally reproduce B&W film photos. I can guarantee you that. It doesn't matter whether one like more one or another - it's a fact.

Now, on a personal note, I said "fake" because it's a digital colored photo that was digitally mastered to remove color information - fake. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with that! In fact, there are astonishing digital colored photos. All I'm say is that, in my opinion, artistically nothing matches the good old B&W film photo. It feels real to me. I think I can't explain it any better than this, sorry.

as a photographer i find your post both completely ignorant (in the literal AND figurative sense) and offensive

just because people click a button and dont take the proper digital processing steps doesnt mean you cant make digital black and white photos every bit is good as with film .

mordern digital phjotography (not simply clicking away with a point and shoot) is every bit as detailed and beautiful as film photography and the simple fact is that film is dead , it will no longer be anything more than a novelty as digital photography has greatly surpassed film
