That's Americans for you, only they call walking hiking. IMO it's only hiking if you're in the wilderness wearing hiking boots and rain gear and have emergency supplies

I challenge you to walk across Los Angeles city limits and tell me you didn't go for a hike! (That's assuming you could finish it in a day, which would be difficult, as LA is bigger than Delaware.

Ignorant intolerance aside, this is a pretty stupid post. For starters, you don't need boots to hike. I've hiked with regular shoes before. Isn't hard. Rain gear? In Southern California? Did you know it doesn't rain here much? Obviously not. Emergency supplies? How about no? You don't need emergency supplies if you are just going up and down a mountain. Just water and maybe some food will do. Unless, of course, you are stupid and are not alert to your surroundings. But, then again, look who I am posting towards. Maybe you need emergency supplies for a several hour trip. Regular folks don't.

Some folks are just bigots. There's probably no help for them. As Robert Heinlein said, "Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig."

For an understanding of how people like inmypants (and many others who behave the same way) can be so ignorant, and yet believe themselves to be superior to others, look up Dunning-Kruger Effect. It explains a lot.

Wow this got serious pretty quickly!! I didn't pick up on the anti-American vibe in the post, I guess because even though I am from Ireland I have been on hiking trips with American buddies in many national parks - Glacier in Montana several times (hence the bear spray comment), Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons in the Rockies as well as Arches and Canyonland in Utah. I have also been on trips through the Black Hills and across the Rockies from Denver through Aspen and Telluride. They have been some of the best vacations I have ever been on mainly because of the great facilities but also because the hiking community both American and from overseas are such friendly people and look out for one another. Yosemite is on my to do list but it seems like Runyon Canyon park is a great getaway from the urban sprawl and traffic of LA, which when I was there I hated
