    This is just a guess, but since most of the retail outlets that would carry the nude version of Playboy have either closed or are fading away (bookstores), they went this route hoping to expand the magazine's distribution to grocery stores and other retailers that wouldn't stock the nude version of the magazine. Plus, they can get more women to pose that normally wouldn't - just speculating.
