Twilight and Fifty Shades was successful because of its fanbase based on the books/ source material same goes with Harry Potter and Beauty and the Beast. As I said in those cases it's not the actors fault/achievement if a movie is a flop or successful.
Let's just take the example of Kristen Stewart, she got shit for her acting in Twilight but was critically acclaimed in Clouds of Sils Maria, Personal Shopper, Camp X-Ray,Certain Women, On the Road & Still Alice . Her acting helped to made these movies successful. Watson on the other hand not so much with her movies.

Colonia had a great premise, an OK script but Watson failed to deliver. Her character is tortured and all she's able to deliver is 'Ouch! Yes I obey' *clap clap* for such talent /s

I could literally name 1000 great movies with great acting that flopped at the box office

 

Colonia was a bad movie, anyone that took that part would've been a let-down.
A movie about Paul Schäfer turned into a love story in a cult... a cult nowhere near what it really was.

The thing is if you look at Daniel Radcliffe's work since Harry Potter, he had an alright movies but I'd say he's worse.
His voice ruins him and if anyone has seen Imperium.. At least with Emma you can enjoy the view.

Actually I loved the Circle ... the whole idea of putting in a VHS tape, then a creepy girl coming out of the TV and then climbing out of the well .. good stuff ... really good ... 9/10

 

So you're saying that every movie that has a known property/existing fanbase behind it is a surefire hit - regardless of actors, directing, script etc. But there are countless examples that prove the opposite: all the Fantastic Four movies, Green Lantern, the Divergent series, etc.

And if you look on the other side: Why was for example Iron Man such a big hit? Because everyone already knew the character? Sure, but also because RDJ does an amazing job in it. You could argue the same for the Harry Potter franchise or BATB.

Emma is a good actress. Not great, not phenomenal but good.
She has starred in a few clunkers but I think its because the movies themselves suck. It doesn't matter if Jennifer Lawrence or Scarlet Johansen starred in Colonia, it would still have been a bad movie.
Emma is primarily known for her HP fame. Her choice in films in therefore not surprising. She's trying to separate herself from that character. She wants to be taken seriously. Though too many low grossing films is bad for any actors resume so tbatb was a safe bet for her.
That film was Hyped from the moment it was announced. There were fanboys saying they loved the film the moment they heard she was cast. There were people saying they'd skip the film because of the gay character.
Its a family film and the highest consistently grossing films for the last decade have been family films.
You don't have to be psychic to know Despicable Me 3 is gonna be a box office hit.

The Circle was a miss. Emma will get another hit within the next two years I'm certain.

 

Kstew is a crap actress, not sure about the other films but chanel bought her good press for personal shopper.

She's a pretty good actress that picks horrible projects. If she ever gets cast by a good director and really commits to a role, I think she will surprise people.
