Oh bollocks. Is she a serious actress? sure, one who seem to be completely void of personality on screen. Watson barely convinces me of being Emma Watson off screen let alone any lead character on one. Of course, it's the fucking evil patriarchy again

In her defence, and Hanks, if you have a multi picture deal with a studio you often take shit projects that take little time to make to get out of a deal. But this is just another shitty movie in a line of shitty movies she has done about repression and justice (Colonia, Regression, The Circle) since wedging her head up arse. Nobody want to see movies like that, it's just that simple.

This subject of debate is as old as Hollywood itself. And it applies to both male and female child stars who went on to act as adults. Many of them don't make the transition very well, and I don't need to name names as examples. It's not unusual for people to express their disappointment when their idols turn out to be flawed. I always find it sad and puzzling when that disappointment morphs into unkindness. How does one benefit by insulting Emma Watson when she has done nothing to make the situation personal? Some people take fandom waaaay too seriously. Lighten folks, it's just fucking movie.

I agree with everything Scribe just said, but people take fandom way too seriously in the other direction as well. The usual suspects in this thread seem to obssess over Emma and seem to think she shits gold. The girls is as saverage as they come, and her acting is mostly wooden. Que the "I'm A Sexist", and threatened by female empowerment B.S., your usual delusional defense mechanism. God forbid we don't worship your Hollywood idol, or worse, actually state our opinions. On a side note, I do find some of her rhetoric personally insulting as a man, as I believe she is wrong and misguided, although I recognize her intentions are pure.

No. I tell you, I was tempted to kill this thread before it even got started because I knew it would likely turn into a trollfest - and I'm mostly not wrong on that point - but in the end I'd be accused of excessive censorship, or being a white knight, or some other bullshit. As a mod what I'd really like to do is ban Emma Watson content, among others, so we don't have to moderate the ridiculous nonsense that is often provoked by certain celebrities. Kim K, Lohan and Cyrus, and lately Katy Perry, are notable others. But we couldn't do that in good conscience, because when it comes down to it, a very small percentage of the membership on this board ever make their opinions' known, whereas the majority are silent. And it's for them that we feel protecting the content is most important, not the bloviating whackadoos who seem to think their silly opinions on this board make a difference in the greater scheme of things, one way or another.

And so the hackneyed debates will continue, even though they never cover any new ground. God it gets old.

I think i'll take the 18% rating on rottentomatoes and the 43% on metacritic. Even Rolling Stone, who are about as cucked as you can get thought it was a pile of shit

Fuck knows. Some people are 'gonna hate for no reason, and some people find it necessary to defend her and every project she's attached to because they bizarrely feel it's their duty.

It would have been a shit movie regardless of who the lead was. She's not a great actress, but then who ever said she was a great one? That's the big negative of doing so much green screen at an early stage of your career when you should be developing a natural range of emotions, the more screen time she has the greater those weaknesses appear.

For what it's worth, the movies she's been in since HP were never going to make money so flop is a stretch (excluding Noah, not exactly her fault it underperformed). And this was always going to get battered when the generation it was marketed to was going to spend two hours watching some bald dude in a wife beater drive cars around, steal stuff and blow shit up for the eighth time instead. It would probably have been better with an August release date, but I guess the studio wanted to capitalise on her B&TB publicity. It would have still sucked, but it may have broken even.

Why people take it personally escapes me either way.

 

She was pretty cute, playing herself, in This Is The End.

Which was a stupid movie. It was only slightly more intelligent than World War Z.
