    If you want an explanation from an ex-smoker (with more than two decades of nicotine):

    I can understand the thrill and taste and the relaxing effect of cigarettes. We can't (and shouldn't) prevent people from making their own experiences with "sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll" (which include cigarettes). For me, smoking was an important part (both in the positive and negative way) in my life.

    And quitting also.

    Since I stopped smoking five years ago, I can appreciate a clean apartment, the untainted air in bars and restaurants (here in Germany) and the feeling that your body becomes powerful and refreshed again.
