I wasn't being pretentious, it was a simple statement of fact. And what you consider to be a contradiction is just a qualifier, because nothing is absolute, especially in the "art" of cinema, which is full of sexual exploitation, because sex sells, and that's what movies are meant to do, generate revenue.

I may have been born in the afternoon but I wasn't born yesterday afternoon. Christ. Hollywood is all about the greenbacks. If a film turns out to be somehow artistic, that's quite secondary to the motive of why it was produced and released in the first place. That's not to say all film makers are cashwhores, but Hollywood as an industry certainly is. In such a case standards are a good thing, because without them, there's no telling what kind of shit they'd be putting out in the name of "art."

Sorry, scratch that. I meant "greed."

Saying "sex sells" can be simplistic and cynic! And "standards" are obviously a good thing! But you didn't said that at the first time, you said "common decency". And that's what I think is pretentious because what one may think that one thing is within common decency, another may not; it takes many things into account, it may be very subjective and, because of that, no-one can say "mine's better".

Of course nothing is absolute, I just said that. But come on! "We can't do that because is not within common decency... But if we really really have too..." That's seems like a contradiction and somewhat hypocrite.

(Again, I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings nor to be a complete ass. But have some common decency guys, please!)
