If you see your gif playing once you post, try to use a smaller thumbnail and if that does not work use a different approved host.

Alot of phishers are trolling phun nowadays. I see people replying with thanks and hitting the thanks button. This means that at least some people are getting caught and as long as people are getting caught the phishers are going to keep hanging around here.

The best thing we can do is to not give them any reason to by not clicking on their links. If you see a dodgy link then just type PHISHER in the thread and leave it. The less interaction the better.

    WHAT TO DO

Here is the golden rule. ALWAYS, ALWAYS HIGHLIGHT THE LINK BY HOVERING THE CURSOR OVER THE URL. If it doesn't match up then it's a phisher. mark the thread as a phisher thread for others to see and REPORT IT in forum issues.

Some phishers use completely different URL's but there are some who will use URL's like RAPIDSHARC and so on that appear to be RAPIDSHARE on a quick glance so it is worth taking a better look. I have also seen phishers use names like Wtfasshole instead of (Administrator) Wtfazzhole to try and get folks to click so be careful.

It's also worth checking posts with multiple files as some phishers will make the first link a real link and the second a fake. I've seen it a few times so be careful. If a poster is new or has very little posts then ALWAYS double check what you are downloading.

Best thing to do is to set your downloads to DIRECT DOWNLOADS, that way you will not get caught unless you are really not paying attention. (Cheers grooves) And set your R/S security lock to ON for double safety.

If you suspect that something is wrong with your cookies and need to sign in again always do it from your own premium login zone through your suppliers own url, not anyone that you click on through a link. And always double check.

I'd ask that members bump this thread every now and then so people can keep it fresh in their head. We need to get rid of this group of phishers who are hanging around phun. :D

also if you right click on the link, it will bring up a drop down menu. at the bottom click propertys. this will pop up a small window with the actual link they are useing.

Great advisory, but why not put in some extra security measures built into the forum itself? Such as making it only viewable by the members, and you have to register and would need to make a certain amounts of posts in some other forums to be able to post in the downloadable section? Just a thought, I know it's easier said then done, but it might prevent a lot of problems in the future. Otherwise, people if you are reading this, use Firefox with the noscript / cross site script addon. I have been burned too by one of these threads which had the xp antivirus 2008 on it, which was a pain in the neck to remove.

The solution to this is simple and easy. All phun has to know is what the phishing URL's are. (Phishing sites). An administrator may then censor them.

Example: censoring "gladiator" makes it post as $$$$$$$$$. The word glad won't be censored.

So, if someone posts what appears to be a valid link, but it redirects to a phishing link, the link will not be clickable since the phishing url now has invalid characters in it. However, the downloader can still get the valid link by copy/paste.

Censor works great and should be implemented.

VERY good idea for a post Jammsbro! I do report 'em, when I see 'em, but always be careful when you see a "new" member spamming lots of posts. That's usually a hint that they're phishing...

    gHe :)

People should go to rapidshare.com and log into their permium account before logging on here. You will spot phishers easier as they'll be the only links that ask you to log into your already active account.
