not everyone has or needs a rapidshare-premium-account.

if you don´t have one but want to contribute please start a collector´s account.
right after your upload is finished you can start one.

i know, geman, but... well you´ll get the idea ;)

this account keeps all your uploads, your links don´t die after 10 downloads, you´ll get rs-points and maybe one day (10.000 points) you can change your collector´s account into a premium-account.

You can create premium-account(s) but can't change your collector´s account into a premium-account.

    Yes you can.

Free users can manage their files in the Collector's Zone. If you upload files from within the Collector's Zone, the files are automatically assigned to your Collector's Account. You collect RapidPoints by other users downloading your files. You can exchange your RapidPoints for a Premium Account.

After you get 10,000 points in your Collectors account, get a Premium account, transfer your files there and earn another 10,000 points, do you keep renewing that Premium account or do you have to get a new Premium account each 30 days?

Just my 2 cents, but just so the link doesn't die after 10 downloads it is worth setting up the account.

As far as collector vs Premium user, I would say this. If it takes you 2 months to get 10,000 points, leave the files on the collector side, and upload to the collector side. Just use the premium login for downloads.

Once the files are moved to the premium account, you must get 10,000 points within 6 weeks or you will loose the points you have accumulated. You can move the files back to the collector account, but you can not move the points.

If you leave the files on the collector side the points will continue to add up on the collector side and you convert them when needed to another premium account.

It is cool to watch the amount of traffic you are getting with certain file types. Some of my links I have had as many as 3000 downloads on, others may only get 25, it all just depends on who is looking at your post.

I have converted 3 times now, 10,000 point per month. I don't download a lot from these boards, but it is nice to not have to wait when I do.

Hey TheRiver, I have seen on other boards where they set up accounts in rapidshare, and upload one file. People looking for a free account, go and download the file, and reply to the thread. Once the account has converted to premium, they give it out one of the people who helped get it over 10,000 points. Would something like that be allowed here at Phun?

    that´s what i´d suggest, too.

well... i don´t "care" what you´re doing with your accounts...
all i know is that RS started to monitor accounts more than they did before.

    I have two questions:

    1) What are the differences between Premium User points (PU) as opposed to the regular rapid points? And do they get added in the same pool of points?

    2) Is there a way to bypass that 200 mb upload limit to make uploads faster and more efficient?

    And one more question:
    3) Why is that sometimes when I upload a video, it sort of hangs on 100% and then it still says there is a remaining 'X' minutes left despite the upload being complete already? And sometimes the video doesn't even get uploaded at all! Anyone know what's up with that?

Thanks, guys. you'll be seeing more videos from me.

It's maybe getting a bit off-topic, but it's a good way to train my english ...

ad 1) In your account (Premium and Collector) you have a total counter of points. If a free user downloads your file, one point is added there. If a user with a premium account downloads your file, one point is added to your PU-counter. You can't get more than 255 PU-points per day. This counter is set to zero after midnight and the points are then added to your normal RS-points counter.

ad2) Not sure anymore. There was (or is) a way for Premium users to upload up to 2GB files, but then only premium user can download it or you have to set the file free for trafficshare. But you hardly see any RS file bigger than 200MB.
I won't download a file which is, let's say 1,4GB cause you never know if the download (or the server) breaks down. If you have downloaded 1GB of this file you are loosing 1GB of your RS traffic and then have to download again, that's not a good deal. On the other hand you are just getting one point for this 1,4GB file and not 7 (if you use 200MB chunks)

ad3) This can have lots of reasons: RS servers are down or hard to reach, they are checking the file and found it blacklisted, but you can't see the error message, maybe your IP adress has changed in the meantime
Normally i don't have any trouble when using the RS Uploader tool (max 100MB) or the RS Manager (max 200MB).

All things considered I think Rapidshare is the best File Host option for any one who is willing to upload a few files ...as opposed to "pure leechers". The option to convert accumulated points from downloads of your files is absolutely fantastic ! I have been using it for nearly a year now. Every month I convert 10,000 points from my collectors' account into a 30 day "premium account" and don't ever have to wait like free users do - all without ever spending ANY money at all on the account. But never forget - you gotta upload, you gotta post, and people have to download those files, for this to work. Some of my files have crossed 10,000 downloads.

Try it. It works. And its a real sweet deal.

Yes, RS.com kicks all the rest of the file hosts.
Although Megaupload is pretty good too, and especially if you hit it at happy hour.
Too bad they reduced their Daily download quota though.
But if you collect a lot of points, like I do, then it's just a matter of converting your Points for Traffic Share.
You can get up to 10GB a day this way.

All in all, a Premium is the way to go !

Does anyone have any tricks for getting better upload speed with RapidShare?

I top out at 25kb consistantly, and have tried a couple different upload tools, but none are giving me any better speed.

My DSL doesn't have a great upload speed, but testing it with RapidShare Manager running I still showing 100kb upload speed...

Any help would allow me to post even more!!! lol

    TIA

    Silk

Have you tried using another carrier (globalcrossing, level3, telia) in the RS browser upload mask. RS-Manager automatically tests different carriers and chooses the fastest one, so that may be the reason why RSM shows (and maybe has) a better speed.
There are several test sites (i use
    Code:
    http://www.wieistmeineip.de/speedtest/
where you can check your upload speed, sometimes the speed differs depending on where you live and how good (long) your cable is.
With a DSL 6000 you should get about 64kb upload speed, but don't trust the speed that is shown while uploading, better make your own speedtest (for 100MB it takes me about half an hour with DSL 6000).
Maybe your service provider has a slow line to RS-servers, so maybe try another hoster (not RS) just for testing. I also tried registering to a free ftp webspace (1 GB). There are a lot of free small ftp-upload tools (like perfect-ftp). WIth ftp you normally get the full speed, after uploading your files to your ftp-webspace, you can easily remote-upload them to RS (only takes a few seconds). One interesting point is: if you have your files uploaded to ftp, you can just remote-upload them to RS twice or more and have simple backup-copies if one link is reported, but that's another story.
