Hmmm. I'm not too phun-educated. I asked in another thread where I should post my issues with downloading/extracting multi-part .rar files and was sent to this thread. Doesn't look like the 2673 pages in this thread offer "tech" help. Am I in the right place?

By all means ask here. But if it's a highly technical question, and requires specialised knowledge, don't expect an instant answer! ;)

I don't think it's very technical but, not fully understanding .rar files (and the programs which extract them), I might not ask my question correctly....

In the past couple of weeks I have downloaded (and re-downloaded) quite a number of multi-part .rar files which will not extract. The program I use is called "FreeRARextractFrog." I bought a "premium" account on Filesonic and all files are downloaded from there. I do NOT have a problem extracting *one* file downloads and not all multi-file downloads are problematic. Only some. And I don't know why.

    Here is just one example
    http://forum.phun.org/showthread.php?t=656348

This is a five part d/l. Three of the five parts (parts 2, 3, and 4) show as exactly the same size (460,800 KB). Some parts of other files also show as the exact same size. (Is this any indication of a problem - files sizes of the same size?)

I don't know much about uploading, downloading, or extracting .rar files. But this bugs me enough to post and hope for some explanation/help. Thanks.

Normaly when you download multi rar files be sure to have them all in one folder and can be unrared with winrar

FreeRARextractFrog doesn't sound very helpful in giving a hint about what is going wrong when extraction fails, and whilst I've no reason to suspect it may be the problem, I agree with Salty and would recommend another free download - Winrar. At the very least with two extraction programs you could eliminate that as the problem.

However, an occasional issue is file corruption - the bigger and more fragmented the downloads are, the more vulnerable they are! Have you tried re-downloading them?

But before you waste any more time, try Winrar out!

Thanks for the replies, guys. Downloading winrar from cnet and installing lit up my virus program like a rocket.

Once installed winrar had the same problems extracting.

Maybe it's god's way of saying I already have too much "stuff" on my puter.

You don't have to worry about cnet, or winrar DuMe. ;) Are you still trying to extract the files you listed in the link above? If so, I'll grab them, and give it a shot when I get a minute. ;)

Yeah, Salty. Give them a shot. See if they work for you - AND what size each file is.

Well, I do always have all in one folder. But ... I have, say parts 1, 2, and 3 of file A in the same folder as parts 1, 2, and 3 of file B. Does that make a difference? It never has up until recently.

You just need to have every part of the vid you want in one folder, there can be other rar-files in it. When you have all parts extract the vid by extracting first part, winrar should extract the rest automaticly
