Therefore, please do not use imagebam, or any host, that provides live playing gifs in those specific threads.     I looked it up and you're right; the Black&White adjustement layer was newly introduced for CS3.
    Anyways, like you said, there's ways around it and CS2 does have quickmasks...
    or you'll need to grab a copy of CS3. ;)
