    That's ridiculous. There are a ton of examples where you can't take a combination apart and say that each part can also go by the name of the whole. And if you look at Merriam-Webster, bikini is also defined as "a man's or woman's low-cut briefs". Which means by either definition, if the bottoms aren't visible you can say you don't see a bikini.

    Do you argue with everyone? I've lurked these boards for quite a while and I've seen a disproportionate amount of nit-picking and arguing out of you. Give it a rest already, merriam webster! You do realize that a bikini is similar in name etymology to the bicycle? You realize that it means two, right? As in two parts, like a top AND bottom?
    Also, in that picture someone posted, Borat is wearing a MONOkini, meaning one, as in a one-piece. So, if everyone wants to be overly technical and split hairs, then she is actually wearing a bikini top. To say she is wearing a bikini is inaccurate and gives a false impression. Above all, THANKS FOR THE PICS uploader.

    Actually, the bikini was named after the Bikini Atoll where the Hydrogen Bomb was tested. It has nothing to do with the "bi" prefix meaning two.

    Because some french guy says he named it after the island hoping it would "explode" into the public consciousness? Irrelevant to my point anyways. It has come to mean two piece bathing suit, even if via retcon. Why do I say that? Because the monokini refers to a one piece and the trikini to a three piece...End of story! Also, to update my earlier assertion, the monokini on men is also called the "Mankini"...

    Call it half of a bikini, but don't go calling it a bikini. That's not accurate.
