I don't see a problem. There would be if it was the other way around. Personally, I still couldn't get myself turned on over it, the way she's designed to look but if anyone has their "paedophile" comments, keep it to yourself.

That was one weird movie. Genuinely made me feel very uneasy at a certain point...

Never seen the movie myself, but isn't that the one with the guy luring her to his place, then it turns out he was being played by her all along, and she tortures him, or something?

 

The two problems I had with the movie were:

1) I never bought into the fact that she was 14. Even without knowing until now that she was 20, she did not pull off "14 year old" to me.

2) There were essentially only two characters in the entire movie, and I hated them equally. If they had both died, it would have been much better.

I actually like controversial subjects in smaller independent film. It's really the only thing that makes them worth seeing nowadays. That said, while the tagline for this movie may sound explicit, there was really nothing taboo about the movie. It was all (for the most part) dialogue. Truth is, this was absent of nudity, sexuality by the lead. It really could have been played by a younger actress. Perhaps then it would have recieved more attention. As it is, Ellen Page didn't convince me in the least that she was 14. Plus the entire premise was quite unbelieveable.

If this piece of tripe bothered some of you guys, then Dakota Fanning in the upcoming "Hounddog" will likely make your heads explode.

That is, If you believe the early reports about the film. It may all just be the Hollywood hype machine looking for publicity.

In my defense, I had opened several tabs with gifs at once, and I know MM did many of the ones I looked at before.

I agree. But it was the scene when the girl was performing a certain procedure... It was so drawn out, and every man in the audience was visibly in discomfort. The women on the other hand were not the slightest bit phased.

I've only read a little about the Dakota Fanning movie. But I think alot of it might be hype. I know she's a serious actress for her age, and a very capable one for that matter. But the question has to be raised whether she is ready, or indeed whether her parents would let her, portray such controversial and adult matter (as hyped thus far). At the risk of growing up too quickly so to speak. She still is a child after all.

 

Im sure they've made the scenes in question sound 1000x more extreme than they actually end up being. I'll pass judgement until more people actually report on the scene in question. Then again, a young Jena Malone did some very explicit scenes in "Bastard out of Carolina" when she was a child actor. However, she was an unknown, so no one really made a fuss.

It's probably boarderline exploitation since Fanning is a child star. Then again, the director is asking people to withhold judgement until they actually see the scenes. Leading me to believe that they are fairly moderate, and that the Hollywood hype machine has merely got a hold of them.

 

I agree, i believe you can't judge until you actually experience it.
i've seen some horrible, horrible cinema, some of which i never want to witness again, but some of which has led me to witness some very interesting and informative insights into life. This could be another one of those films, i don't know.
But we mustn't forget Jodie Foster, who played a prostitute in Taxi Driver, the same as as Dakota is now. With the respect of the filmmakers and help at hand, acting out a scene such as this does not exactly lead to instant loss of innocence. If it's held with respect to everyone involved, i don't see why it should not be released.

 

Let's not forget Brooke Shields in "Pretty Baby". I've caught parts of that movie on TV and it's like a 12 year old prostitute? Wtf?

Oh, and the correct term would be ebophile: sexual attraction to young teens who are post pubescent and have secondary sex characteristics. Pedophilia is sexual attraction to PRE teens who are PRE pubescent and have no mature physical sex characteristics.

Not that either aren't weird, although in the past just about everywhere early teens would get married, and this still goes on in many countries (India, for example). And the age of consent varies too, from like 12 in Spain to 18 in the U.S.

No, I'm not a perv, I had to do a report on teenagers sexual lives for a college class and found all this stuff out. It's only a google away after all lol.

 

Ellen Page is actually 19, she won't be 20 till next month... and the movie was shot in 2005 which would have made her 17. if the film was made in early 2005, she would have just turned 17.

so in actuality, she would have only been 2+ years older than the character she was playing.

just FYI.

 

Err, by my math that would have made her 18 when she filmed the movie - She was born in the start of 1987.
