I'm getting my news fix on NPR radio. Then at 6:30 I'll finish the news fix with NBC Nightly News on TV. I think I am a news junkie.

 

I am watching local and state news currently......I don't watch the alphabet soup national news....just too tabloidal for my tastes.

 

I should watch more local TV news, but here isn't enough time! Before going to bed, I get the straight dope from BBC radio news on world issues. When I wake up I listen for any new world stories, then for anything national that catches my ear. I think NBC cuts it pretty straight at 6:30. Then it goes tabloid at night on every news channel. BBC World Service Radio is the straightest.

 

I tend to watch the PBS news programs for national and worldwide news....."the facts ma'am, just the facts" and opinion is clearly noted as such.

 

PBS is definitely straight news.

And, I know when I'm getting "shined" in other news stories. If we didn't have BBC and PBS, there would be no "straight news!"

 

Did you get more rain Thore? And did you get to ride? How about that other race you were hoping for? I forgot to ask you!

 

I agree. With the explosion of TV news channels, there is fierce competition for viewers ($) and with the average American being of dubious intelligence, the tabloid approach appears to attract more viewers. I am also very weary of the news media inditing, trying, convicting and sentencing people, companies, or groups instead of just reporting the facts and letting the appropriate and legally appointed entity perform those functions.

That mass of rain we saw on the radar late Saturday night did completely move over the state over night. At 7 AM Sunday morning, all that rain was gone; however, the trailing side of the low was becoming a factor and rained out my ride. We got a slow drizzle from about 2 AM to 11 AM on Sunday. In total including Saturday and Sunday, I got about an inch of rain. One of the better rain events in 9 months. But with the very dry air that moved in, by Wednesday it will appear as if we got no rains. Even today we have many dozens of brush/forest fires active in the State with 16 larger than 100 acres.

 

So sad about the brush fires just a short time after rain. Damn.

 

We had one of our worst years ever last year with forest fires.......and they just had the State person on the news saying that our current drought index is significantly higher this year compared to last year.....so it looks like a long fire season for us

PM, the last part of your earlier question regarding the nitro drag race, the rain stopped here by noon, so they should have been able to finish the Saturday and Sunday event, though they may have been delayed up to 2 hours. The have lights at the dragway, so even if they went into the early evening to finish, they could have. Interesting that I saw no coverage in the local news(?)paper.
