22 years ago, I bought a STIHL chainsaw with a 16" bar....liked it so much that all my similar power tools have been made by STIHL. Today was the first time that I have taken my chainsaw into the shop. Never had a lick of problems out of it...easy starting and cut like hell as long as you kept a sharp chain on it. I probably could have serviced it my self, but with a lack of place to work on it and a lack of desire to work on it, I took it in for a general cleaning and tuning up. I fully suspect the only thing wrong with it is that the fuel filter was clogged. Will be interesting to see what they charge me....I gave them a limit of $200 before they have to call me for permission. A comparable saw today runs about $450 new.

I've seen STIHL tools, but didn't know they had that good of a reputation.

Yep, they are really good....have spoken to several people that have used most of the predominant brands and they all say like Stihl the best with Echo next. In spring of 2010, I knew Iwas going to have to stop my yard service that I had been using for 5 years.....so I have to re-acquire the associated equipment. I bought a Stihl power head on which I could fit a string- trimmer, edger, and hedge clipper attachments. The power head used a gas/oil mix, but is a 4-cycle engine.....I love it! The easiest starting small engine I have ever had, runs great, runs much more quiet than a 2-cycle engine and has plenty of power. Saved money too by only having to buy one engine for three pieces of equipment. I have a Stihl hand held blower now for ten years....again no problems with it at all.
