I just watched a replay of the crash on espn.com. WoW!

something has got to be done about the Talladaga and the Daytona races.....something has to be done to break up the tendency to have the cars all group together. Today's crash occurred after the field was packed up for a restart, so that could happen at any high speed track....but these two tracks tend to maintain large packs of cars and that leads to large crashes

 

What could they do?

 

NASCAR created the problem many years ago when they required carburetor restriction plates at these two race tracks. The restriction plates reduce the horsepower so much, that the drivers have to stick together in order to run fast. The solution is to remove that restriction......and to add drag to the cars to control the speeds along with other changes that will cause the cars to be less stable when running nose to tail. This will break up the pack racing.

 

Gotcha. Why do I think that won't happen, though?

 

I think crashes get ratings. Just a suspicion.
