Verlander looks rattled.

 

He doesn't pitch shutouts every game. I think they'll leave him in there to get his stuff together. He had a few games like this during the season.

That ball that hit 3rd base was the only thing that could be considered luck, though that could happen to anyone. The base is part of the field of play. It really had no bearing on what followed anyway.

Apropos of nothing perhaps, but I think the DH rule works against the AL in the World Series. NL pitchers are used to going to the plate and having a chance to put the ball in play. Many NL pitchers are actually pretty good hitters too.

 

But he would've been driven in by Sandoval's home run anyway.

 

98 pitches for Justin through 4? Wow, it didn't seem like it.

 

But the pitching strategy to Sandoval would have been different with a guy on 3rd.

True. They might have pitched around him. Is Verlander asked to give many free passes? I've never seen him pitch a game where it was necessary.

Albuquerque's a monster when he's on. Coming off surgery last year. Sandoval's on fire -- he can't be stopped by mortal humans tonight.

 

Verlander is rarely in an intentional walk scare. He isn't asked to do it often.

 

I think they're pulling Zito too early. Maybe I'm wrong, though. We'll see.

But now (I think) Andy Dirks will replace the rookie Garcia in left field. Dirks can be a killer hitter.

 

Lincicome makes a formidable relief pitcher. It's like when the the D-Backs used Randy Johnson as a closer after Kurt Shilling pitched a dandy in the WS several years ago. It almost isn't fair. Still, Lince can be got to....
