We use a Nortel 8600 main chasis and 5510 switches(mostly - some 470's where Gig isn't needed). Fiber from the chasis to the switches, daisy chained scsi from switch to switch in the stack. This stack has been in place for over a year and just started today. It'll get 25% loss then 0 loss 5 minutes later. Can't see anything on the sniffer that would indicate a virus and no spamming tree errors on the switch. I've seen this once before, 1 switch in the stack finally totally failed. Once we swapped it out everything was smooth again. I've eliminated 1 of the switches right now, we'll see if it's the culpruit.
The description sounds like it would taste good.

March 23, of this year I hit my 1 year "No Windows" anniversary, and i celebrated by wiping my very last microsoft drive and formatting it as linux ext4. It went from not used in 271 days to 68% full of pics & clips on a 500 GB drive lol.

What do the logs on the UPS show? Any power flucuations on a particular switch? Current draws or temps out of whack? How about the exhaust fan. i had one die in a 350 once and it was over heating a daughter board next to the internal supply. An internal zip tie end had come unstuck from its dd264 plug and stuck in the fan and burned it up.

Btw, now that (almost) all experts are here!

I have a program called WinPcap 4.1.1 installed and a earlier version on my laptop, which I don't remember installing! Can anyone say if that on would come bundled with something else and being necessary for that to work?

WinPcap is a tool for link-layer network access in Windows environments: it allows applications to capture and transmit network packets bypassing the protocol stack, and has additional useful features, including kernel-level packet filtering, a network statistics engine and support for remote packet capture.

cheesy poofs network scanning for power users

I use Wireshark now, (used to be Ethereal) but when adminning it was Retina and Sysinternals.
