  3. Our gif only content threads have a rule where all thumbs must be posted as a static thumbnail that does not play. Currently imagebam made a change where they no longer produce static thumbs. Therefore, please do not use imagebam, or any host, that provides live playing gifs in those specific threads. If you see your gif playing once you post, try to use a smaller thumbnail and if that does not work use a different approved host.

Screencaps aren't "creative" works, they're simply stills pulled from a video source. And their relationship to videos--which you agree should be posted in a separate forum--is far closer than that of Instagram pics and paparazzi pics, since caps and video are literally taken by the same camera. In fact, virtually all video posts contain screencaps detailing what the file includes, so in that context, videos and screencaps are companion pieces, and are only separated for a particular purpose--to post caps in the image forums.

If you must argue the existence of this new forum, do so from the angle of convenience. In other words, talk about how much of a pain in the ass it is for you, as a member, to keep two bookmark tabs for the same site on your browser, or how your time is wasted by slogging through two forums when you previously only needed to peruse one. This stuff about gradient content seems disingenuous, and at best it's simply wrong. Instagram pics are celeb-sourced, low-quality images almost by definition, and as such only share the attribute of being a still image with the content typically found on celeb forums. Considering the rapidity with which these images tend to release, and the fact that these threads created for them almost never feature more than one or two pictures, allowing social media pictures to have their own forum is a perfectly reasonable decision. It's recognition of the fundamental difference between social media pictures and the rest, and it will prevent what we all have seen happening already, and is sure to only become more prevalent as time goes on and the cellphone camera tech becomes more ubiquitous--the celebrity image forum getting clogged up with a dozens posts of one celeb, and the total pictures equaling the number of threads.

But I suspect--and Ram admitted as much--that this isn't about gradients or like content, and more about people fearing that their Thanks numbers won't rise as quickly, because the forum won't be as popular. To me, this is the shallowest of all reasons to complain. Most of the posters of any merit also post on several other forums--I've seen Ram two or three other places where he is a key contributor--so audience size shouldn't be an issue. Perhaps we should all reevaluate our reasons for griping and consider that this move was made with the best interests of the forum in mind. After all, this Phun.org, not RamistheMan.org, and not beautifullyloaded.org. And it's certainly not mouthynoobnamedJoeGamer81.org, so I'm going to take my cue, shut up, and leave it at that.

nope....imo you're nit-picking just for the sake of it

perceived weirdness in a celeb's way of life
is not the same as a celeb deliberately making themselves goofy for a camera shot

Angelina Jolie's lifestyle may be weird in many people's eyes
but i don't recall her making herself look goofy on purpose like Miley in robo's thread
unless you have pictures that prove otherwise
    if so, please post them
we could all do with a good laugh! ha ha :) :)

    just because...

starting this new section was a reaction to a significant bunch of more or less explicit outspoken comments/complaints of the former status of the GF and/or CF by MANY phunners.
(almost) nothing manmade is perfect in the beginning (even god needed 7 days...).

i think phun/the owner/the staff have proven that constructive-minded input never falls on deaf ears.

so... go ahead, give us input in the above mentionerd way - and even better add to a successful outcome!

    thank you.

(S)trenghts - tons of content (such as ADDs not found elsewhere)
    (W)eakness - sprawling threads
    (O)pportunities - greater freedom vis-a-vis other forums
(T)hreats - unbridled trolling, declining citizenship

I sense the CX reorg was driven in part by controversies surrounding the Ooops thread and reflections on re-classifying ancillary content -- sprawling threads (W)eakness.

Unlike other forums, Phun's open policies are in a "Goldilocks zone" that encourages content swarming while its freeform thread structure provides a slipstream shield from "those that want its content removed". This (O)ppotunity led to Phun's growth over other forums, such as 5up3r10rp1c5.

If Phun's profitability is dependent on traffic, its culture of volunteerism and mechanisms to encourage unique content are keys to success. Sprawling threads may actually be a (S)trength, and not a (W)eakness, since it keeps questionable content alive longer (less dead links).

Social media creates more content, but it is not the volume that is a (T)hreat. The sub-culture of anonymous social media is attention-based and integrates trolling and bullying, which in-turn creates in-group silos and discourages new membership. This is the (T)hreat. Forums, such as P1@n3+5uzy, have restructured to optimize media content and minimize text. Others, such as v1n+@Ge3r0+1c@, have limited but self-perpetuating norms towards self-moderation. Phun rewards posters by post count, regardless of post qualty, period.

Generation is another issue. The distinction between one's self and digital self is blurring. If greater membership = more traffic and content, then realizing this generational difference is critical. Social media = digital self.

While the CX reorg deals with thread sprawl, it does not address the driving forces that affect Phun's negative transformation.

    Case in point ... http://forum.phun.org/showthread.php?t=440298&p=7104894&viewfull=1#post7104894

Admins and mods may want to get together and do a full SWOT analysis to get a better outcome.

You don't need to garble names with characters instead of letters, it's not forbidden to say the names of other websites. Plus it's annoying.
There are established protocols for dealing with the problem expressed by Xray. As the thread owner we can accommodate a number of factors that would satisfy the success of his thread. All he had to do was ask. This holds true for everyone who starts a thread at phun. The mandate of the staff is make the phun experience the best possible for all the members while trying to keep collateral damage to a minimum, which unfortunately is going to be a given in some cases. We endeavor to meet that goal through interaction with the members, not through statistical analysis.

Has his thread always been called "Xrayvision," or is that a recent conceit? Because I feel like when you do what Xray does, which is to poorly draw tits and bush over opaque clothing, then if it somehow finds its way into a thread where legitimate work is done, it's only fair that some criticism befalls it. Of course, if the thread really always was called "Xrayvision," then I think it's probably best that people who aren't into that kind of thing just avoid it. There's obviously some niche audience for what he does, and he should be free to cater to them without being constantly criticized...so long as they have their own, clearly defined space.
