The Attention Deficit Disorder Thread

There's a ton people going to Linux instead of Windows. We've got several Linux servers here and they're very stable, much more so than Windows IMO. Much cheaper too.

 

The only thing I get is the very occasional pop up ad. Like the livejazman (or whatever) thing here. But most of that is caught by the blocker. No adware, no spyware. It's all pretty much unheard of in Mac circles. I have heard of a Mac virus, but I don't know if it is real or not. I honestly don't know anyone that has had one. I am a prolific downloader and have never had anything.

 

Does Mac work on anything or only Apple stuff?

I'm pretty sure you can run most all popular Microsoft apps on a Mac. If not, you can be sure they have their own blend of whatever they can't. It may work a little different but the end result would be the same.

 

I don't think you can run a Mac operating system on a PC if that's what you mean

Yeah, as far as I know. Never heard of anyone running Mac OS X on a PC or anything other then a Apple computer

 

I'm not real familiar with Mac OS but I think you actally can, it would depend on if the OS could see the hardware. So as long as you had popular hardware it would work. Not sure why someone would do that though. That's like buying a car to hall wood, they weren't meant for it so why would you try to do it?

But it's not meant for it. You like Mac OS buy Mac hardware. I think anyway. But I do look at things more technically than practically so there you go.

 

I agree that its not what its meant for. Just rationalizing why someone might try it

 

With the ease virtual pc's now-a-days I'm sure people have both setup on the same box.

 

I've heard of people partitioning Macs and using bootcamp to run windows, but never the other way. Like you say though, I am sure some one some place does it

 

yep, lets of people out there that fool around with computers just to pass the time. Not me, only do what I have to do on one. I'm like the old saying of the painters house is always the one that needs painting the most on the block...just don't wanna mess with it after work.

 

I hear that. My Dad always wants me to fix his computer. I don't do it for work, but it used to be fun to play around. "Used" being the operative word there. Now it just seems frustrating when I have to do it for someone else. Well, only when it doesn't work. If it's an easy fix, no problems :biglaugh:

 

I can't stand being asked, even by family but I do it anyway.
