    Well, after initial configuration you dont really have to mess with a linux box again unless you change hardware. Especially debian stable. As far as a backup & storage box goes, anything with raid 1 ability (harddrive mirroring for safety) can be about any old box with a couple gigs of ram and 2 or more harddrives. (personally, I use an external hdd appliance)

    Thanks for the info Cy....I really appreciate it. I am an ex PC junkie going back to the DOS days....yep, having to set memory addressing and interrupts for peripherals, etc. and I have installed and set up network systems when the City had no tech support or assistance. This will give me something to research and try to figure out just what direction I want to go. I have always hated M$ and pissed and groaned when the City adopted their software as the standard for the entire organization. I loved WordPerfect, but had to change to MS Word in 1993. (fucking black box software!)

    Anyway, time for me to turn in....good night my friend! :bye:

    Heh, I disabled prefetch, disabled disk cache, upped the mem cache to 1 GB, enabled pipelining, enabled proxy pipelining, upped max connections to 150, dropped initial page draw to 0, and disabled search engine tools. Now my FireFox 22 is hella fast :lol:

    Course, I'm sucking up about 5 users worth of bandwidth, but ignorance goes slow, :evilgrin:
