Great until yesterday afternoon at about 1:30....:?....I tripped and fell on a tree root.....hit my left shin about 2 inches below my knee....did not thing much about it and went on about my business, but with the temps turning cold, the ladies were staying covered up, so after about 1.5 hours, we went back to the hotel. By then, my leg was starting to hurt a bit, so I pulled off my pants to look at it...:shock:....it was very swollen and a big patch of skin had been rubbed off. It continued to swell and hurt more. My friend had to leave Friday morning at 6:30 for personal reasons, but he had no cold weather gear and it was in the mid-30's this morning....so we decided to just leave then. He helped me load my bike and we both left about 4:15. After an hour I had to stop of gas and could barely walk and the pain was becoming intense. I finally got home about 7:45 and was cold to the bone by then....plus riding facing right into the sun was a pain also. My leg continued to swell, all the way from the top of my knee down to my ankle, so I took pics of it, texted them to my son, then called him as I was concerned if I needed to go to the emergency room. We talked for a while and he gave me instruction how to treat it and what to look out for that would indicate complications. Took a major dose of pain pills, applied antibiotic cream, covered with a very large band aid, then placed a compression wrapped the leg from the lower thigh to my ankle. Major discomfort even with the pain meds. Finally got to sleep about 3:30 this morning and slept until almost 10 AM. It is a bit better now, but this is going to take a long time to completely heal.....like about 6 weeks. The pain and aching is down to a tolerable level now, but the area is very tender.

 

I had a great time until yesterday afternoon...^^^

 

sorry to hear about that mishap Thore, hope for a quick healing.

 

I have lit a fire to take away the chill in the house, though I have had too much clothes on this evening while staying at some friends so it felt quite nice to cool off when I got home.

That really sounds bad, Thore. Did your son diagnose a broken bursa sack and fluid leaking?

 

I have used up all the wood I cut almost two years ago, so I don't plan on any more use of the wood stove this winter. I hope this is the last cold snap we have.....got down to the mid-30's F (3C) this morning. Tomorrow will be much warmer.

 

No, just typical trauma swelling with some minor internal bleeding (as my blood is kept rather thin). It is pretty ugly though.

 

I'm really sorry Thore. I took one fall like that as an adult, and am also familiar with much of that because of my own knees. But every injury is a little different, and I hope that yours follows the normal healing process.

 

supposed to drop to -10C again here next week, and snow.

 

It appears that the knee is not injured, just sufficient close to the spot where I landed on the root to where it is in the swelling zone. I have been very fortunate to never had any knee problems so far in my life.

 

Man, that sucks.....and the official start of spring is not very far away either, like about a week I think.

 

There are all kinds of weird spots around the knee that no good to injure.

(I just made a call. My back and knee are keeping me home tonight.)

I just got off the phone with my son......gave him a status report and answered some "doctor" questions he asked....he said so far it sounds like it is healing without complications.
