I think I fatally injured my lawn mower today.....hit a root (raised roots seems to be plaguing me of late...)...It now vibrates, more so when the blades are disengaged....I tend to think I may have slightly bend the crank shaft. :?

While my current mower, a Honda, states it can mulch, side-discharge, or bag, it is obvious to me it is primarily designed to mulch. It is one of the poorest mowers I have had for bagging as it requires going over an area two to three times to pick up 95% of the leaves. Years ago I had a mower I really liked and it lasted for over ten years....my son, ten at the time, required the mower to drag him around as opposed to him walking behind the mower....the result is he wore out the rear-wheel transmission. I was able to make it a little better, but was not worth the cost of having it fully repaired. That mower is still made and with improvements, like it now has a blade brake. I may be ordering one in the next day or so.

 

Indeed. A replacement is $488 with tax. :?

 

I have never managed that, not even when hitting rocks. something on the blade must be bent or broken or lost

I was hoping that was the case, but the fact that the engine vibration is much worse when the blades are disengaged indicates otherwise to me. I may get the mower up and have a look-see very soon.

 

I suppose it's not impossible, but I find it very unlikely. better have a good look

 

Have had spindle shafts bent on multi-blade belly slung tractor mowers before.......and yes, I will have a good look...that is why I put it on my motorcycle lift as that will help me to be able to see it better.

Plenty of them...but if it is the crank shaft, well, that is significant internal engine work, so the cost would be more than half of a new mower....I would consider that if I was completely thrilled with the mower, but I am not......so....
