so if they had this many eyes on it how come they had to regret anything? How many officials were in the booth review committee? You telling me they ALL missed the call? That to me makes this an even bigger travesty!

 

I believe it is in ALL sports. Any time you have money involved in a game then it is not really independent because you now have outside influences or potential influences.

well you can believe it any way you like. I don't think with that many eyes that a mistake is possible. Anybody in the review booth could have made the call to review it further and yet nobody did.

 

The Yankees are in the black for sure ... the rest is all accounting mumbo jumbo. Their TV network is called the YES network btw. Since it's their network they basically pay television broadcast rights to themselves.
and their revenues from team merchandise is pretty sweet too.

oh and Steinbrenner doesn't run the club anymore ... hasn't for a few years because he is not well. (he's not a young guy anymore).

One thing you overlooked .... the value of the franchise has skyrocketed since Steinbrenner brought the team.

 

The one sport I seriously distrust is horse racing. The jockey can have a direct influence on the performance of his animal. If a horse that is expected to win comes up short they can just say he had a bad race. A group of jockies on the most favored horses can pretty much do as they please, to one another's benefit too.

I don't agree with the blanket statement "All Sports", but I do agree that money plays a significant factor on who wins and loses, but not necessarily on the playing field. And sometimes spending all that money doesn't guarantee anything. Yankees and Mets are perfect examples of that.


The NASCAR/F1 team mate thing makes me nuts, and the manipulation of the points systems is another reason I hate car racing, especially NASCAR.

The rule of thumb is the sports with the fewest participants (boxing = 2 participants) are the easiest to fix. Horse racing = one jockey and one horse + handlers/vets.

The value of several teams, including the Cubs, have skyrocketed over the past decade. New York, Chicago and LA are the largest tv markets, but the cachet of the teams, expecially in NY, Boston and Chicago, are going to have more inherent value than the Padres or Marlins. The Cubs sold for $900 million. Tribune originally paid a pittance of that back in the 80's.
