Like I vaguely mentioned above, there are about 4 or 5 "go-to" formulas for a successful televsion program to be syndicated in Japan.

1. Anime
2. Crazy Intense Gameshow
3. "Live"-Anime
4. Crazy Farfetched yet still Entirely Factual "Documentary" Variety Show (think of that old show where the celebrities guess the person's unusal profession)

the picture is depicting #4, where a "fact" or "oddity" is brought up to the panel of Japanese celebrities, and they "awe" over the bizarre nature of it.

I don't know really, it's just a snapshot of the show, and i haven't watched it, but most likely, it's just a comparison and contrast of that crustacean (?) that perhaps not many people have seen up close before.

I guess the kitten is there to prove that it is alive, and to see what interaction the two animals provide the audience with.

No, I didn't go to the link. If I saw that while hiking I would not walk up to it and pet it. I get the feeling that's as close to a dinosaur as a bird is. (Meaning: Pretty darn close.)
